Los Cabos Hotels Expected To Be Packed Over The Next Month

According to data recently published by the Secretariat of Tourism and Economy of Baja California Sur (SETUE), Los Cabos will experience a 75% occupancy rate for the period going from March 1st to April 5th. 

Recent estimates show that roughly 47 thousand students are expected to flock to this destination during this period due to the break. But how is this municipality preparing to welcome all these tourists? 

Better security

The Los Cabos government has been implementing several new measures to make sure everyone will be safe during the upcoming spring break. 

For instance, actions were taken to regularize the many street vendors illegally selling their services in the busiest sites of the municipality.

According to February 2024 estimates, over 2,000 people are now selling their goods and deals in Los Cabos’ most touristic areas; however, only 675 are in possession of the necessary documentation to carry out these activities.

In this regard, the head of the Tax Inspection Department of the XIV Los Cabos City Council, Luis Ovidio Marroquín Gómez, stated: “We have observed a huge presence [of merchants] in the El Médano area. For this reason, we are intensifying operations (…), carrying out inspections to guarantee that illegal trade does not take place.” 

But this is only one of the many initiatives the Los Cabos government has recently implemented to keep spring breakers safe. 

New security measures were also implemented. For instance, extra surveillance points have been set up in the Cabo San Lucas downtown area as several students are expected to gather here during their trip. 

But why do so many students keep choosing Los Cabos for spring break? 

The perfect destination for a quick getaway

At the moment, there are almost 30 direct routes connecting Los Cabos to metropolises all over the U.S. 

This allows plenty of tourists to reach this great municipality in a few hours without having to wait for long layovers. 

Some of the cities offering direct connections to Los Cabos include San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, St. Louis, Chicago, Austin, Houston, and Dallas-Fort Worth, just to mention a few.

On top of this, Los Cabos is set on the Mexican Pacific Standard Time (GMT -7). This is great news for American students as it means that, in the worst-case scenario, they will have to deal with a two-hour difference compared to their usual time zone. 

This allows students to avoid the negative effects of jet lag and be able to go back to their classes right after the end of spring break without having to budget a few extra days to recover from jet lag. 

Saving Tips

Despite all the positives, it’s important to remember that Los Cabos remains a luxury destination, meaning that most services here tend to be way more expensive compared to most other Mexican areas. 

According to local news, most tourists are now spending over $500 per night on their accommodation.

In light of this, students may now wonder how to save money on their upcoming trip. Luckily, there are a few ways in which they can do so. 

First and foremost, booking for large groups of people can help you save plenty of money on your transfers and tours. 

Apart from this, students can opt for cheap accommodation options, such as Airbnbs and hostels to cut down costs. 

Los Cabos also offers plenty of free activities for all types of tourists. For instance, people can spend their days on one of the many stunning beaches typical of this area, such as El Chileno, El Medano, and Santa Maria Beach. 

Alternatively, they can go for a hike in the nearby Sierra de la Laguna mountain range or head to the popular San José del Cabo Estuary for some bird watching. 

Last but not least, Los Cabos tourists are advised to book all their transfers in advance. In particular, trips from the airport to most hotels in the municipality can be pretty pricey, up to 80$ for each way!
