Who wants to take their worries with them on vacation? Not us! Thankfully, Los Cabos is known for being a safe vacation destination.

The U.S. State Department recently released a warning for travelers visiting certain Mexican vacation destinations this spring, and not surprisingly, Los Cabos was not mentioned in the warning.

To add to that perception of safety, a new report from the Anáhuac Tourism Research and Competitiveness Center places Los Cabos toward the top of the list among the safest destinations in Mexico.

The Newest Report On Los Cabos Security

The newest report to analyze safety in Los Cabos comes from the Anahuac Tourism Research and Competitiveness Center.

Information from the Urban Public Security Survey was used to create the report.

That information includes answers to the question of how safe and secure people feel in Los Cabos.

So How Safe Does The Report Say Los Cabos Is?

The issues, among others, that were considered when ranking the different cities were how often individuals fear becoming a victim of a crime, and what the expectation of crime trends is among the population.

According to the information in the report, Los Cabos falls within the top five destinations with the highest perceptions of security on the list.

This is the second year that Los Cabos has made it to the top five.

Why Los Cabos Is Safer Than Other Destinations

Los Cabos is not completely without crime, no big city or tourist destination in the world is, but authorities put in the effort to make the destination more secure.

Continuous training of security officials, while at the same time increasing the number of units during busy seasons, has helped to deter crime.

Additionally, over the last couple of years, officials have begun to utilize new technologies, like high-tech security cameras and drones, to enhance security in Los Cabos.

The Geographical Element

Another reason Los Cabos is safer than many other destinations in Mexico is its geographical location.

Located at the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula, in the state of Baja California Sur, Los Cabos is far removed from mainland Mexico.

Certain parts of the mainland are where security problems are more of a concern.

So Are All Areas Of Los Cabos Safe For Tourists?

While even Los Cabos locals generally feel safe in their hometown, visitors are advised to remain in tourist areas.

This is where security is prioritized to protect tourists, and just like in any tourist destination, it’s better not to wander into unknown areas.

The beaches and hotels along the Tourist Corridor, downtown Cabo San Lucas, and the beaches and marina areas in both Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo are all considered safe.
