Los Cabos Remains A Top Destination In Mexico According To New Report

According to a new report, Los Cabos remains one of the most popular destinations in Mexico despite a recent drop in international arrivals compared to the same period in 2022. 

Recent data shows how this destination experienced a growth in terms of international tourists equal to 8.8% from the beginning of the year till the end of August 2023. However, during the eight months of the year, Los Cabos registered a decrease of 3.9%. 

It is still unclear as to what this sudden drop may be due, but experts believe that there is no reason to be alarmed. 

Similar data were recorded by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), which reported that the whole country of Mexico experienced a higher number of flights in August compared to 2022 but fewer international visitors. 

Despite the sudden drop in international tourists in Los Cabos, the number of foreign visitors who arrived at this destination in 2023 is still drastically superior to the numbers recorded in 2022. 

Experts believe that number will soon rise again due to the end of the low season and the beginning of the winter, one of the most crowded periods in Los Cabos. 

Better Tourism

Commenting on the data, the State’s Secretary of Tourism, Maribel Collins, highlighted the importance of taking into account the type of tourism the Los Cabos municipality is now attracting. 

In fact, sustainable tourism is now growing in this area. According to Maribel Collins, this is way more beneficial to Los Cabos’ natural ecosystems as well as its population. 

Sustainable tourism not only aims to preserve the natural and cultural heritage of Los Cabos but also aims to fuel sustainable economic growth for the people inhabiting the area rather than the mindless exploitation of their lands. 

The State’s Secretary of Tourism believes that Los Cabos is now attracting this type of tourism thanks to its sustainable and eco-friendly restaurants and activities. 

According to Maribel Collins, the sudden drop in international arrivals experienced by the municipality in August shouldn’t worry locals too much for as long as the eco-tourism trend keeps growing.

Why do people keep choosing Los Cabos? 

Recently, it seems that nothing can slow down the flow of international tourists who keep flocking to Los Cabos. But why do people continue to opt for this location for their holidays? There are several factors involved in this trend.

First and foremost, plenty of reports published on a monthly basis keep reporting how this municipality is among the safest in the country. 

Los Cabos authorities are constantly trying to improve the safety levels in this area by putting in place a number of initiatives whose aim is to deter tourist scams and other illegal activities. 

For instance, just a few months ago the local government decided to add 300 police officers to improve tourist safety. 

Local authorities are also constantly warning tourists about the latest scams occurring in most tourist areas of the municipality. Some of the most recent include illegal tourist transportation options and unauthorized vendors operating on the main beaches in Los Cabos. 

Another common reason why tourists keep flocking to Los Cabos is the high number of blue flag beaches present here. With over 25 beaches certified to this standard, this destination is ideal for those who want to enjoy an ideal beach vacation. 

Apart from the beaches, Los Cabos also offers a number of activities able to satisfy all tastes, from whale watching tours to hiking adventures and a variety of high-end restaurants where tourists can try the local cuisine. 

Lastly, in recent years, Los Cabos has established itself as one of the best luxurious destinations in the world. Not by chance, celebrities such as Justine Bieber, Selena Gomez, Jennifer Aniston, and Brad Pitt were spotted vacationing here.
