Los Cabos’ Most Popular Beaches Being Overrun With Vendors, Here’s Where To Go For Peace And Quiet

The issue of vendors at Los Cabos beaches is one that keeps popping up. So much so that in a recent interview with the mayor of Los Cabos, Oscar Leggs, the situation was addressed.

The mayor mentioned that there are currently 630 certified sellers that are allowed to do business at local beaches. At this point in time, his administration is not looking to add to that number.

In fact, the mayor mentioned that local authorities are looking for ways to make sure that these 630 sellers won’t be together at one beach on any particular day.

Seller At El Medano Beach

The beach that’s most overrun by sellers is El Medano Beach. Most of the certified sellers want to find a spot at this beach because it’s typically the one that gets the most visitors.

Mayor Leggs mentioned, though, that there can’t be more sellers than tourists at the beaches. That’s something that, in his mind, is not good for anyone.

Therefore, he wants to set up a program where sellers would have specific days that they can access a certain beach.

Since federal authorities from ZOFEMAT are technically in charge of the beaches, this isn’t an issue that could be attacked at the local level.

Ultimately, even though the mayor is lobbying for there to be a solution to the problem, it’s likely that some of the more popular beaches in Cabo will remain filled with vendors throughout this summer.

Tourists may do well to find other spots where they can have a more relaxing beach-going experience.

Beaches That Tend To Be Crowded In Cabo

There are two main beaches that tend to be overly crowded in Cabo. These are the aforementioned El Medano beach and the beach known as the tourism corridor beach in San Jose del Cabo.

There could be a bit of a saving grace for beachgoers to the private areas within these large beaches. One of the main reasons why these two beaches tend to be crowded is because they feature the most beachside hotels.

In some cases, these hotels are able to close off part of the beach to ensure that sellers don’t access that part and overwhelm tourists. That, unfortunately, means that the public parts of these two beaches tend to be extremely crowded, particularly on the weekends.

Another beach that could be surprisingly crowded is Playa El Amor, or Lover’s Beach, near the Los Cabos Arch.

You have to take a water taxi to access this beach, but in spite of the difficult access to the area, it still tends to be rather crowded at certain points during the day.

This is mainly due to the fact that tourists want to be close to what is arguably Los Cabos’ main attraction.

Good Alternatives To These Popular Beaches

For people who want to have an all-around calm beach-going experience, Playa Santa Maria may be the spot to go to.

This beach is essentially a cove with the shore protected by large rock formations. Meaning that, for the most part, large waves or harsh currents won’t be present.

At the same time, you won’t find the large number of sellers that have become synonymous with El Medano Beach.

Acapulquito Beach may be the exact opposite of Playa Santa Maria in the sense that Acapulquito is known as Cabo’s premier surf spot.

This can be a great beach for people looking for a great swell in Cabo. For the most part, this beach is not going to be as crowded as some of the others unless there’s some type of surf tournament taking place.

Another option for tourists can be Las Viudas Beach. One of the complaints that people have about this beach is precisely the lack of people coming here.

Travelers who decide to head to Las Viudas would do well to take their own towels, food, and anything they might need for a day at the beach.

There are not too many businesses or independent sellers here to purchase much of anything.
