Golf Digest, one of the leading publications in not only golf news, but travel that includes the game, just released their list of the top 100 golf courses in the entire world. The cabo region had 3 local courses featured on the list. No other city or region in Mexico had any course featured on the list. Courses located in 25 different countries made the list, for avid golfers that like to travel there are few regions across the globe where they could play in some of the world’s top courses with those courses being only a small drive apart. The Cabo courses that made the cut were Diamante Golf Club (Dunes), Querencia Country Club, and Quivira Golf Club which debuted on the list this year.
Diamante Golf Club Is The Highest Rated Course In Cabo On The List
The Diamante Golf Club Dunes course came in at number 50 on the list right in the middle of the countdown. Reviewers from Golf Digest had to admit that it was potentially the only course on the list where you could find cactus plants by the beach. A backdrop that has certainly become synonymous with Cabo over the years.
The course was designed by famed PGA Tour pro Davis Love III, and his design team. It has been recently renovated to ensure that the entire back nine on the course would run along the Cabo shore and feature majestic views of the Pacific Ocean. The Diamante Golf Club is located in Cabo San Lucas directly behind the Hard Rock, and the Nobu hotels. The back nine on the Dunes course sits right along the local beach known as Playa el Suspiro.
The club features two other golf courses besides the Dunes course. One of the courses is actually a Tiger Woods design. The branding on that course may cause some players to want to tee off on that course, and not the Dunes course which Golf Digest has rated higher. A round of golf in the courses at Diamante Golf Club reportedly costs around 320 dollars on average. You can book your tee time considerably in advance through a US toll free number.
Querencia Country Club Took A Considerable Step Forward In This Year’s List
Querencia Country Club near San Jose del Cabo was the only other Cabo golf course on the list last year. This year it took a considerable step forward moving up 20 slots on the top one hundred list. Its rise was perhaps aided by the fact that the course also saw upgrades to its back nine holes.
According to reviewers from Golf Digest the course is a master class on how to use the natural terrain to create world class golfing facilities. In the case of Querencia Country Club it uses the cliffs, and the ravines that run through the area as an integral part of the course design. Unfortunately for travelers it’s a members only club, and guests can seemingly only play if invited by a member. However, access may still be granted through golfing travel packages or by calling the club directly.
Quivira Golf Club Makes Its Debut On The List
Quivira Golf Club is essentially the closest golf course to the Los Cabos arch. Sitting right next to the high end Pedregal housing area where one of Cabo’s top hotels the Waldorf is located. In saying all of that it’s odd to think it is perhaps the most accessible of the 3 Cabo courses that made the list.
Prime tee times can go for 380 dollars or so even during peak season months, and virtually anyone is welcome to make reservations. The knock by Golf Digest on this course is that it lacks continuity in its design. Yet, legend Jack Nicklaus and his design team pulled off an amazing feat to create this golf course on such difficult existing terrain.
