It’s no secret that more and more people are visiting Los Cabos and now the numbers are showing that 2022 has already been deemed the best year yet for Los Cabos tourism. In the first half of the year, more than 2 million tourists visited Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, the cities that makeup Los Cabos, or “the Capes,” which is the translation of the name of the area that has become so popular. Cabo San Lucas is actually Cape St. Luke in English, and San Jose del Cabo translates to St. Joseph of the Cape.
Each one of these cities has something unique to offer visitors. Cabo San Lucas is busier, has more beaches, restaurants, and resorts, and has a more exciting nightlife. San Jose del Cabo, on the other hand, is quieter and a little more quaint, resembling the quintessential beach town more than its busier counterpart.
The Los Cabos area is the more expensive Mexican vacation destination, yet it is still the second most popular, with Cancun being the only city to host more visitors. Despite the higher cost to visit Los Cabos, though, Cabo has continued to maintain around 70 percent occupancy on a consistent basis. New hotels and resorts are being built all the time to keep up with the demand, and each one seems to be better than the next.
In Cabo nine resorts were named the best in Mexico by Travel & Leisure Magazine, a list that included a total of 25 Mexican resorts. Los Cabos is also home to the Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach Golf and Spa Resort, which was rated as having one of the most beautiful views in the world. And one of the most luxurious Airbnbs in the world, according to Architectural Digest, is in Cabo San Lucas.
With all of the luxury options in Los Cabos, it’s no wonder it is so popular among tourists from the United States, Canada, and Europe. In the first 6 months of the year, more than 2 million visitors passed through the Los Cabos International Airport and many more are expected throughout the remainder of the year. In addition to the tourists flying in, 150 cruise ships are also expected this year, adding to the total number of visitors to spend at least some of their vacations in Los Cabos.
Even though it may be more expensive to visit San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas there are ways to save money while vacationing in these two popular cities. Airbnbs tend to be a cheaper lodging option, as are hotels that are not all-inclusive resorts. When it comes to eating there are plenty of lower-priced options for those that look a little away from the high-priced luxury resorts.
While many travelers visit Los Cabos for the amazing beaches and beautiful scenery there are some really great activities to enjoy while visiting. Visitors can ride a camel or an ATV on the beach, go snorkeling, try fishing, ride jet skis, or tour the area by bike. And for those looking to experience more of the culture there are all kinds of events that highlight the uniqueness of the area, like “Restaurant Tuesdays,” and the “Thursday Art Walk” events in San Jose del Cabo.
If a vacation destination such as Los Cabos is getting millions of annual visitors despite the higher price tag it’s evidence of just how great it is. It’s going to be a record-breaking year for tourism in the area for a reason and it’s only going to grow more in popularity, making now the best time to visit the area.
