The fast-growing tourism destination of La Paz, north of Los Cabos, has announced a monumental 50% reduction in reported crime during the month of September.

While the town undoubtedly lives in the shadow of the world-renowned Los Cabos, the destination has been working hard to tempt travelers away from its luxurious neighbor.

Why This Stunning Destination Near Los Cabos Is Now Safer Than Ever

And when it comes to enticing travelers from a better-known and better-established rival, what better way to earn the choice of travelers than by cutting crime in half?

A Hopeful Outlook

La Paz, like most destinations across the world, has faced a strained security situation since the end of the pandemic.

But in spite of the challenges of the past number of years, criminal incidents are now at one of the destinations’ lowest levels ever in recent memory. As well, this huge shift is made all the more surprising as this quarter of the year traditionally sees an uptick in criminal incidents.

This good news hasn’t come about by accident, of course. These statistics are a testament to intensified and effective law enforcement efforts and a large number of new initiatives that are beginning to bear fruit for travelers and locals alike.

Competition For Visitors

Probably one of the greatest drivers of the positive changes in La Paz, as well as Los Cabos and other Mexican hotspots like Cancun, is the need to provide a safe and relaxing environment for the millions of travelers who visit each year.

Anyone who has traveled to less touristic areas of Mexico will testify to the huge differences in attitudes from law enforcement depending on location. And while these positive changes aren’t only down to tourism, the presence of travelers is having a positive long-term effect.

More Than Just Safety

While the impressive increase in safety is a big feather in the cap for La Paz, this destination has so much more to offer.

Los Cabos is no doubt the tourism powerhouse in this corner of Mexico, but decades of heavy tourism have diluted some of the destinations’ cultural charm, although it certainly isn’t charmless.

In that respect, La Paz is a perfect opportunity for travelers to experience the best Mexico has to offer, all within a relatively short distance of the United States.

The Malecón

The locally famous Malecón, which is a beautiful beachfront boardwalk, is as close to walking through a movie set as a traveler can get without stepping in front of the camera.

Numerous restaurants, bars, cafes, and more informal eateries providing refreshments and ice cream dot the boardwalk, ensuring travelers keep their bellies full while enjoying the relaxing atmosphere.

A Perfect Beach Vacation

On top of this, a trip to La Paz doesn’t mean leaving behind the beach. Balandra Beach is situated here and, unlike many of the beaches in Los Cabos, is safe for swimming.

The water is crystal-clear, and thanks to the geography of the state of Baja California Sur, where both La Paz and Los Cabos are located, the swells are a lot less aggressive than what is often found in Los Cabos.

Of course, there are more beaches here than just Balandra, some of which are perfect for travelers searching for an uncrowded experience with just nature, sea, sand, and sun.

Explore The Sea

Adventurous travelers won’t feel out of place here, either. While the destination is much more relaxed than Los Cabos, it is still home to a near-endless list of adventurous activities, most of which take place on the stunning Sea of Cortez.
