There has been a lot of talk about the safety of visiting certain Mexican vacation destinations but tourists say they feel safe when visiting Los Cabos. This is according to the Los Cabos Tourism Trust, after evaluating exit surveys given to summer tourists following their vacations. This perception of safety results in more repeat travelers who spend their vacations in Los Cabos, a destination already very popular among American tourists.
Two separate and very unique cities make up the area of Los Cabos, which literally translates to “The Capes.” San Jose del Cabo is the older, quieter of the two, where people go for rest and relaxation. Cabo San Lucas on the other hand is busier, has more all-inclusive resorts, and has a more active nightlife.
Many celebrities vacation in Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. Los Cabos is known for its beautiful beaches, its variety of watersports, and its large array of luxury all-inclusive resorts like the One & Only Palmilla, some of which are frequented by the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Justin Bieber, George Clooney, and Jessica Alba, just to name a few. These resorts are available to the average tourist as well, so visitors to Los Cabos can vacation like the stars if they want to.
It’s important to note that Los Cabos is one of the more expensive Mexican vacation destinations to travel to. With all that it has to offer, though, including being one of the safer cities to travel to in Mexico, it is worth paying the extra money for a Cabo vacation. Many other popular travel destinations in the country are currently plagued by increasing crime rates that sometimes, although rarely, involve visiting tourists.
In the first half of the year the number of international tourists who visited Los Cabos, particularly from the United States, increased significantly compared to 2019. According to the report, the increase totaled 22 percent, with the largest increase in passengers flying to Los Cabos coming from three U.S. cities. They include Phoenix with a nearly 15 percent increase, Dallas with a 16 percent increase, and Los Angeles with a stunning 23 percent increase.
The astonishing increase in the number of American tourists traveling to Los Cabos since the pandemic began to wind down is due, in part, to the efforts of the country in three key areas. According to the general director of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust, Rodrigo Esponda, these areas include:
- The implementation and follow-up of health safety protocols that give potential visitors confidence in the safety of the destination.
- The constant effort to inform travelers about all that Los Cabos has to offer.
- The ongoing innovation of hotel and activity offerings based on the needs of tourists.
Predictions regarding the rest of the year are positive as well, as the upward trend is expected to continue into the fall and winter months. According to the report, for the time between July and December, more than a million airline tickets are expected to have been booked by the time the year is over. This represents a more than 40 percent increase compared to the same months in 2019, which was pre-pandemic.
Not only do tourists say that they feel safe visiting Los Cabos but the numbers are proof as well. More people than ever before are vacationing in Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo and from all indications will continue to do so. So if you’re looking for a Mexican vacation destination where you can feel safe and secure, then Los Cabos is definitely one of the places you can go.
