Infrastructure, especially roadways, has been a challenge for Los Cabos visitors with the increase in tourists vacationing in the beach resort destination.

Everything from traffic on the roadways and accidents on the toll road between the tourist zone and the Los Cabos International Airport is part of an ordinary trip for travelers.

However, some relief is coming soon thanks to a recent announcement focused on improving the roadways in Los Cabos.

Baja California Sur Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío recently announced a new highway project to expand the bypass between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo during a meeting of the Business Coordinating Council of Los Cabos.

He made the announcement due to the growing traffic and accident issues on the bypass highway between the two main tourist cities.

It is part of an overall focus on improving the infrastructure services for both locals and visitors to Los Cabos by the State of Baja California Sur.

He also discussed a proposal to build an overpass at the height of the Fonatur roundabout, known for its traffic and accident issues in Los Cabos.

Better Flow on the Bypass

The bypass is a major source of complaints from travelers to Los Cabos.

The roadway has been plagued with traffic and accidents with the increase in visitors to the beach resort destinations.

During the month of July alone, there were 176 traffic accidents registered on all roadways in Los Cabos. Most of these were due to driver inattention while on the road.

This project combines with another recently announced by the federal Mexican government to improve the facilities at the Los Cabos International Airport toll booth plaza.

The federal government plans to add more toll lanes to speed up the process for visitors. It also plans restrooms at the facility as well as solar panels to provide electricity.

Focus on the Fonatur

A proposal to complete an overpass at the Fonatur roundabout was also discussed at the road infrastructure meeting.

The Fonatur roundabout has been an issue in Los Cabos for several months now, with hit-and-run accidents and driver confusion being most of the concern.

At one point, the Mexican National Guard was called in to patrol the troublesome roundabout to protect motorists struck by hit-and-run drivers.

The overpass should help provide some needed relief for drivers using the key roundabout location near the Los Cabos hotel zone.

Both of the projects reflect the commitment the state government has made to prioritize roadway improvements in Los Cabos that benefit both locals and tourists to the beach resort destination.

Faster and Safer Trips For Visitors

The new infrastructure projects announced by the State of Baja California Sur will help alleviate some of the delays and safety issues experienced by visitors to Los Cabos.

While most visitors enjoy their vacation stay in Los Cabos, the issues that they complain the most about are the traffic and issues with the roadways.

The roads, especially from the Los Cabos International Airport to the tourist zone, are the first impression visitors have of Los Cabos.

That’s why it’s important to have the roads in good shape to make an important positive first impression for those guests.

As Los Cabos shapes itself into more of a luxury destination, the importance of good roads for visitors will become even more important.

Luxury tourists will not be appreciative of delays and unsafe roadways for their upscale vacation.

The roadway improvements are some of the most pressing needs to improve the general infrastructure in Los Cabos to keep up with the demands of an increasing number of tourists to the beach resort destination.
