Authorities To Monitor Airport Transportation In Los Cabos To Ensure Tourist Safety

Los Cabos International Airport is located in San Jose del Cabo, about 8 miles from the city center of the popular vacation destination and about 20 miles from the even more popular Cabo San Lucas.   

Due to the distance between the airport and these two popular vacation destinations, tourists flying into the airport need to secure transportation to their hotel, either in advance or upon arriving at the airport.   

And authorities are preparing to monitor the different forms of airport transportation in Los Cabos to ensure tourist safety. 

Airport Transportation Monitoring Operation 

There will be two points at Los Cabos Airport where officials from the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport department will inspect airport transportation vehicles.   

An agreement was made between airport transportation providers and government officials to carry out the operation.   

A total of 30 inspectors will be in charge of regulating airport transport services.

Government Response Regarding The Operation 

According to officials, the inspections of airport transportation used by tourists will begin on Monday, August 7th.   

Isidro Martín Ibarra Morales, Under Secretary General of Government, has shared the belief that irregular practices, such as pirating, or fake taxis, can be abolished with the cooperation between taxi guilds, transportation providers, and authorities.   

Morales commented that “These companies have been willing to be monitored, reviewed, supervised and sanctioned by the authorities of the 3 levels of government and the taxi guild, through an observation platform that detects bad practices.”

Transportation Safety Issues 

In addition to tourists having to worry about fake taxis, there are other safety issues that visitors have to worry about when using airport transportation.   

Tourists depend on the safety of the vehicle and the safe driving of the provider when using airport transport services, including taxis.

Traffic And Road Concerns 

There is no better time for the issue of transportation safety to be addressed in Los Cabos.   

In recent months there has been a major increase in traffic accidents in various areas between San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas.
