Anybody who knows anything about Los Cabos knows that the biggest attraction in the destination is its stunning beaches.

The most popular beach is El Medano, which sits at the edge of another favorite spot for tourists visiting Los Cabos, the downtown/central area of Cabo San Lucas.

This area is filled with shopping, restaurants, clubs, the marina, a boardwalk, and more.

A Popular Spot But Still Losing Business

As popular as the center of Cabo San Lucas is, sales for businesses in the area have dropped by more than 30 percent.

This is due, according to local business owners, to a lack of upkeep.

Now, officials have plans to address the problem by giving this popular Los Cabos tourist zone and tourist areas in San Jose del Cabo a $50 million upgrade in the near future.

Let’s dig deeper into the details of the upcoming upgrade and why this area of Cabo San Lucas is so important.

The Details Of The Project

According to the president of the Association of Professionals and Business Leaders of Los Cabos, Robbin Hernandez, details of the project will be presented within a month.

Hernandez stated that the project could cost as much as 1 billion pesos, which equals about $50 million.

The main focuses of the project will be image, construction, and promotion, in both Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, and Hernandez has stated that they “expect to start work in September.”

Why These Upgrades Are Needed Now

It isn’t just local business owners that have indicated a need for attention to be given to this popular tourist area in Cabo San Lucas.

Recently exit surveys given to tourists leaving the destination have shown that tourists don’t think that the area is as clean and well-kept as it should be.

Around that time officials launched a major beach cleaning effort, and now this is the logical next step, considering the area’s popularity.

Should Tourists Be Concerned With The Condition Of The Area

While some tourists have indicated that downtown Cabo San Lucas could use a good cleaning, it’s not so bad that you shouldn’t visit.

It’s still a great area with plenty of things to do.

Furthermore, businesses seem to be keeping up with their establishments; it’s just the city itself that needs some upgrades, but not so much that the area is unenjoyable.

Why Tourists Love This Part Of Cabo San Lucas

There are many reasons for this being a favorite area for Los Cabos tourists.

It’s where the marina is and where all of the boat tours depart from, it’s home to the high-end shopping center Luxury Avenue, it’s filled with great restaurants, and the hottest clubs in Cabo line the streets in the area.

As mentioned above, it’s also only steps from Cabo’s most famous beach, El Medano.

Other Popular Los Cabos Areas To Visit

The downtown central area of Cabo San Lucas may be the most popular area for tourists, but there are others worth visiting.

Downtown San Jose del Cabo, which will be getting some maintenance as part of this project, is also very popular.

It’s much different than Cabo San Lucas, characterized by its charm, culture, and history, so it offers a completely different experience.

Additionally, the beaches along the Tourist Corridor are popular as well, and not quite as crowded as Medano Beach.

Areas To Avoid In Los Cabos

While Los Cabos is mostly safe, with several areas for tourists to visit, there are a few places, like there are anywhere, that should be avoided.

Specifically, the Las Palmas, Los Cangrejos, and Santa Rosa neighborhoods are known to see more crime.

Unless you’re booking an Airbnb, though, you’re not likely to find yourself in these areas.

Instead, you’ll likely be spending your time in the many tourist hotspots while vacationing in Los Cabos, which are the safest areas to be in.
