It’s no secret that Los Cabos bills itself as a luxury vacation destination, a reputation it has owned since its earliest days when celebrities from 1940s and 1950s Hollywood would sneak away from the showbiz world of Los Angeles to this small corner of the Baja Peninsula.
Fast forward to now, over 70 years later, and that reputation is only getting stronger.
In 2023 the destination welcomed close to 4 million travelers, many of whom arrived to enjoy the luxury of the destination in all its glory.
However, contained in that 4 million arrivals is a huge statistic revealed in a recent report that has caused many to raise an eyebrow in surprise.
In 2023, over 100,000 travelers visited Los Cabos via private jet. Which while only a fraction of the total visitor numbers, is still a super impressive number.
In fact, there were days during the busiest period of the Los Cabos vacation calendar when as many as 10,000 visitors arrived by private means.
So, the question is, what does this mean for vacations in Los Cabos?
Growing Reputation
Across the world, many of the previously billed “luxury destinations” have been casting a wider net, hoping to draw in more travelers with the promise of budget and mid-tier luxury vacations.
This is a natural progression; as destinations grow a reputation, there is a bigger market of people wanting to visit.
However, that often comes with a lax attitude to standards and sometimes even a loss of many of the luxury features of the destination to keep up with demand.
Somehow, the opposite has happened in Los Cabos. There’s a trend in the destination for resorts to continually reinvent themselves, and to expand their amenities and offerings to stay in competition with the best resorts across Los Cabos.
Even the smaller, more budget-friendly, resorts follow this continuous attitude of improvement, and in turn that has led to Los Cabos being a destination that never goes stale, or takes the expectations of its visitors for granted.
In a way Los Cabos is like the constant battle between Apple and Android, each year both brands work to outdo the competition and give people reasons to choose their product over the other, and in Los Cabos that same attitude of competition plays out between resorts, with one real winner; travelers.
Standards Set For Americans
Los Cabos is without doubt a favorite among American travelers; while the destination does receive travelers from Europe and as far as Australia and Japan, 87% come from the U.S., the majority from the states of Texas and California.
This leaning towards American travelers is likely why the destination has taken on a highly competitive attitude to drawing in travelers.
After all, across the world, there isn’t a single nation with a healthier competitive spirit than the United States of America.
Furthermore, while American travelers are some of the friendliest and most polite in the world, they aren’t afraid to vote with their wallets.
Best Of The Best
For travelers wanting to find the most luxurious resort experience possible in Los Cabos, there’s no shortage of options, with that being said a few resorts do stand out from the crowd, even in Los Cabos.
The following are just two of the many amazing resort options in Los Cabos:
Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal
It won’t come as a surprise to see a resort from the Waldorf Astoria brand mentioned here, after all they are practically royalty within the luxury resort world.
This isn’t just one of Los Cabos’ most luxurious resorts but also one of its most unique. Seemingly carved into the rockface surrounding it, travelers won’t be disappointed by the experience at this wonderous resort.
Grand Velas Los Cabos
A favorite among travelers to Los Cabos, the Grand Velas Los Cabos has earned an outstanding reputation over the years for treating every traveler like a celebrity.
This resort is so well-regarded that it even won “Top Resort in Latin America” in the 2018 World Biennial of Interior Design and Landscaping awards.
Additionally, for travelers who want a high-end luxurious experience without excessive costs, deals can often be found for the Grand Velas Los Cabos, which makes it a no-brainer.
