A luxurious resort property near Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, has a new lease on life.
The newly christened Kimpton Mas Olas Resort & Spa prepares to welcome guests this April, marking a poignant reopening for the location previously known as Rancho Pescadero.
This is why more and more hotel companies are now investing millions of dollars to build new establishments in the area and its surroundings.
Los Cabos is widely renowned as one of the most luxurious destinations in Mexico. Resorts such as the Grand Velas and Waldorf Astoria are constantly ranked among the best in the country by world-renowned magazines such as Forbes.
According to local news, this is the case with Kimpton, a brand owned by IHG Hotels & Resorts, which will soon open a new property in Baja California Sur.
An Unexpected Reopening
But Kimpton Mas Olas Resort & Spa is more of a reopening than an actual opening.
Rancho Pescadero, part of the Hyatt Unbound Collection, made headlines in 2022 when a tragic carbon monoxide poisoning incident claimed the lives of two American tourists.
Now, under new management by IHG Hotels & Resorts and following extensive renovations, the property embraces a fresh start as Kimpton Mas Olas.
The property remained closed for over a year and went through a complete renovation, becoming what today is being advertised as the Kimpton Mas Olas Resort & Spa.
This new property will open its doors to the public on April 1st and is already accepting reservations.
IHG Hotels and Resorts, however, decided to address the unfortunate event which led to the closure of Rancho Pescadero, in an official statement, declaring: “HG Hotels & Resorts and its brands were not affiliated with the resort when the unfortunate incident occurred. Kimpton Mas Olas Resort & Spa is now led by new brand management and leadership.
The resort underwent a rigorous top-to-bottom re-inspection of all hotel safety processes and operating systems, including mechanical equipment, and continues to invest in the latest technology and processes to ensure the safety of our guests and employees.”
