Dreaming of a Mexican escape? You’re not the only one!

In recent years, Los Cabos has become one of the most popular destinations in Mexico.

With over 4.7 million tourists visiting this area in 2023, it remains one of Americans’ favorite places in the country, and despite the incredibly high numbers of 2023, visitors keep increasing.

According to recent data published by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico, this February, Los Cabos International Terminal experienced a 1.7% increase in terminal passengers compared to the same period in 2023.

Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico operates 12 airports throughout Mexico’s Pacific region, including the major cities of Tijuana, Puerto Vallarta, La Paz, and Guadalajara, and can therefore provide the most accurate data on these establishments.

If this positive increase in terminal passengers continues throughout the year, Los Cabos may welcome 5 million tourists in 2024! However, it is still too early for accurate estimates.

But why do tourists keep choosing Los Cabos for their holidays?

Luxury destination

Los Cabos is now considered one of Mexico’s top luxury destinations.

All-inclusive resorts such as the Grand Velas Los Cabos and Marquis Los Cabos constantly rank among the best in the country, with world-renowned magazines, such as Forbes, often including them in their articles.

But this is not all. Tourists heading to Los Cabos will also be able to dine in some of the best restaurants in the country. Not by chance; this destination was recently included in the Michelin Guide.

Here, people can try the latest creations of world-renowned chefs while enjoying breathtaking views over the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez.

Los Cabos also offers plenty of luxurious activities. From romantic sunset cruises with your loved one to horse rides on the beach and relaxing days at the spa, you will be spoiled for choices.

Breathtaking sceneries

Another common reason why so many tourists choose Los Cabos for their holiday is the unspoiled nature found in this municipality.

Not by chance, this destination has a total of 25 blue flag-certified beaches, providing tourists with plenty of choices.

Visitors can also try out hiking in the popular Sierra de la Laguna Mountain Range, which can easily be reached by car from Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo.

Alternatively, animal lovers can head to the San José del Cabo estuary. This is the ideal place for bird watchers as it is home to a wide variety of bird species that have found their natural habitat in this unique ecosystem.

Los Cabos is also located close to several towns and small villages, such as El Migriño, La Ventana, and Los Barriles, giving tourists the chance to escape crowds and get in contact with the authentic local culture.

High safety levels

Unlike other areas of Mexico, Los Cabos is extremely safe. The local government keeps implementing new measures every week to ensure both locals and tourists are safe at all times.

For instance, just a few days ago, local authorities decided to crack down on street vendors ahead of the spring break season.

More surveillance was also added in some of the most tourist sites in the municipality, including the downtown area of Cabo San Lucas, where most spring breakers are expected to gather.

The Los Cabos government has also decided to increase road patrols to protect pedestrians, making sure everyone respects the speed limits.

The U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, recently declared that although students should remain vigilant during their trip to Los Cabos, the situation is not so different compared to other big cities in the USA.

“We tell everyone who comes that you always have to keep your eyes open and avoid places where you can put one at risk,” declared Ken Salazar.

He later added: “Actually, it is the same thing that would happen if you were in any of the cities in the United States.”
