In the run-up to the peak spring holiday travel season in Los Cabos, the cost of the average room night is already near record-high levels.

Some tourists are concerned about the potential for even higher resort and hotel room rates when the busy travel period starts in just weeks.

Hotel Rates Near $600 Per Night

Tourists are in for a shock when planning for a vacation getaway to the beach resort destination this Spring Break.

With the holiday travel season just weeks away, the average nightly room rate for hotels in Los Cabos is already $570 per night.

That’s according to a recent media interview with Mexican Presidential Candidate Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, where she was pitching the unequal distribution of wealth that tourists bring into Los Cabos and the State of Baja California Sur.

According to local officials, they are only expected even to go higher as the holidays quickly approach.

High Demand for Rooms

Los Cabos continues to be a hotspot for travelers despite the high prices for resorts and hotels in the area.

While a number of new resorts and hotels are under construction in the area, the fact is that the demand will continue to outstrip the available supply for the immediate future.

Travel to Los Cabos actually declined slightly in January, according to the official passenger counts at the Los Cabos airport. However, the decline was not significant enough to really cool the demand for hotel rooms.

Los Cabos International Airport

The Los Cabos International Airport and the Los Cabos Tourism Trust are already expecting the number of visitors during the upcoming peak spring travel season to exceed last year’s numbers and hit record levels for the second year in a row.

Normally higher room rates tend to slow demand as budget-oriented customers find other places to visit. However, that does not appear to be the case this year.

Luxury Los Cabos

One major reason why the high room rates are not having much of an impact is that Los Cabos has shifted its focus to more affluent luxury travelers.

The luxury travel segment has more available money to spend on a vacation and a higher budget for accommodations.

That’s why the current high $570 average room rate is not causing concern with travelers or a significant drop off in tourist counts.

With rates expected to average well over $600 during the upcoming peak spring travel period, it will be interesting to see if other Mexican beach destinations become more appealing to travelers.

Exactly where is the limit where travelers, especially luxury travelers, are unwilling to pay the room rate is not known at this time.

What Travelers Need to Know

Visitors to Los Cabos must be ready to pay some very high average room rates for the resorts and hotels that are still available for the upcoming spring holiday travel season.

Local officials are estimating that the rates could meet or exceed the $600 level in just a couple of weeks.

If a traveler plans a visit to Los Cabos in March and April, they should book their preferred resort or hotel now before the rates increase.

Spring Break in Los Cabos

Most of the high rates are already in the marketplace, but some deals may be had away from the beachfront with some limited-service hotels.

Recently, many of the all-inclusive hotels in Los Cabos have actually been competitively priced if travelers are willing to overlook the initial sticker shock of the room rate and factor in all of the costs of a Los Cabos vacation.

The best option right now is to shop around and look for last-minute deals. While they might be hard to find, the rates found still could be some really good deals.
