Los Cabos recently ranked number one in a survey of Mexico cities that reviews and ranks several items of main concern to travelers to the country.
Mexico Competitiveness Survey
Among all of the cities in Mexico with a population between 250,000 and 500,000 residents, Los Cabos ranked first in a competitiveness survey that took into consideration many of the factors that travelers find important in choosing a vacation destination.
Every year, the competitiveness survey reviews 20 different cities in Mexico similar to the size in Los Cabos on important issues related to technology, tourism, connectivity, economy, working market, security, use of natural resources, inclusion/health/education, democracy, and government management.
Los Cabos Ranks Number One
Los Cabos ranked first in the entire country within its population size based on the ten different indicators. It was the 3rd year in a row that Los Cabos ranked number one.
However, it was only classified at the medium-high level, with several improvements needed before the beach resort destination of Los Cabos could achieve a very high-level status.
Meanwhile, nearby La Paz ranked number three in the survey. Its ranking climbed since last year when the capital city of Baja California Sur was in sixth place.
As a state, Baja California Sur ranked fifth in the survey. It was a two-position improvement over last year.
Important Tourism Factors
The competitiveness survey reviews several items that are very important to travelers to Mexico and Los Cabos.
These items reviewed for the competitiveness survey results include technology, tourism, connectivity, economy, security, and use of natural resources.
Many travelers use these factors when deciding where to enjoy a vacation getaway in Mexico.
They also align well with the important considerations of travelers identified by the Los Cabos Tourism Trust, including wellness, nature, and sustainability.
Los Cabos performed very well on the factors related to the experience delivered to tourists enjoying a vacation getaway to the beach resort destination.
Work to Improve
While officials in Los Cabos were proud of the accomplishment of ranking number one for the third year in a row, work is already underway to further work on the recommended improvements from the survey.
Many of the issues that Los Cabos needs to work on are related to infrastructure needs in the community.
That is an important factor that would not only improve the overall competitiveness of Los Cabos overall, but one that is very important to tourists and the development of tourism overall in the future.
Well Positioned for Digital Nomads
It was also interesting to also review the overall competitiveness score for Los Cabos related to the unique and specialized needs of digital nomad travelers. Those same factors, especially technology, economy, and connectivity, are very important to digital nomad workers.
The fact that Los Cabos performed well for its population size also demonstrates how great of a location the beach resort destination is for digital nomads.
It should hopefully help to attract more digital nomad workers to Baja California Sur and two of the top three cities in the competitiveness ranking – Los Cabos and nearby La Paz.
What it Means for Travelers
The fact that the survey is an independent review of many factors that are important to travelers to Los Cabos should make tourists comfortable that their needs are being considered and, more importantly, are being met when they visit the beach resort destination.
It is good news that Los Cabos performed well on items related to tourist needs and general tourism.
However, local officials understand that much improvement is still needed to improve and enhance the tourism experience in the area.
