Americans love heading south of the border for a dream beach vacation. With so many awesome spots across Mexico’s coastline, it is truly an amazing place to escape.
‘Escape’ being the keyword here. Many Americans typically work a 40-hour work week, if not more. It is common to take on extra jobs to make ends meet.
Others, such as business owners, are working around the clock. There’s no point even punching in. If you’re awake, you’re most likely working in some way.
It’s safe to say many Americans need a vacation, not just want one. So it’s no surprise that Americans make their way to one of the nicest places in Mexico for a fun-filled getaway to decompress.
Of course, that would be sunny Los Cabos.
Who Is Coming To Cabo In Record Numbers?
Los Cabos is breaking tourism records this year, like many places across the world. Mexico’s Tourism Minister, Miguel Torruco Marqués, claims the country saw 700,000 more foreign tourists arrive by air compared to pre-pandemic numbers.
These statistics are only for the first half of the year, so it is all but guaranteed to continue seeing an influx of international travelers coming in.
Of course, this is not breaking news as Mexico is known for being a top destination. In fact, as the world slowly rebounded as the pandemic was winding down, Mexico was fully prepared for an overland of tourists.
Number one on the list, to nobody’s surprise, is Americans. U.S. travelers are responsible for roughly 6.5 million of the 10.8 million passengers arriving by air into the country.

Americans are followed by Canadians at second place, who don’t come close to being number one with 1.3 million tourists flying into Mexico. But who can blame them for wanting an awesome beach trip?
Canada isn’t exactly known as a sunny destination, which is why more routes are being launched to escape to Los Cabos.
Rounding out the top 3 are Colombians, with just over 360,000. This is largely in part to more frequent flights and low-cost carriers, such as VivaAerobus and Volaris, making it more affordable to reach.
Where Los Cabos Ranks Among Mexico’s Vacation Hotspots
Cabo is always toward the top of the list for sunny vacations, particularly for Americans. Mexico is home to some amazing cities and coastlines, all worth seeing.
The problem is choosing where to go. This year, at least up to June, U.S. travelers chose to go to Cancun the most.
Mexico’s busiest airport for international arrivals was the Cancún International Airport, almost hitting the 5 million mark for beachgoers.
But not all Americans are seeking a beach vacation. Some want to immerse themselves in culture with delicious food, world-class museums and stunning architecture.
Yes, U.S. travelers are flocking to Mexico City in droves. The largest city in North America has become a very trendy hotspot for Americans to visit.
The Mexico City International Airport welcomed just under 2 million international arrivals through the end of June.
Lastly, finishing off the top 3 is beautiful Los Cabos. Always a consistent go-to destination for Americans, with magnificent beaches and high-end resorts to make you forget your troubles back home.
Los Cabos saw 1.2 million international tourists pour in at Cabo’s main airport (SJD), many of them from the U.S.
For comparison to show how popular these destinations are, the rest of Mexico received a total of 2.7 million foreign tourists.
That’s not bad company at all to be in! Los Cabos continues to thrive with travelers, many of them who make it their number-one vacation spot year after year.
The amazing resorts, lively party scene, pristine beaches, and so many more off-path attractions make it a wonderful place to get away.
Although these statistics only display 6 months’ worth of data, Los Cabos remains a year-round destination. The gorgeous beaches don’t go anywhere, and neither do the luxe all-inclusive resorts.
