Delta Air Lines has released information on the searches that people made through their website to see where Americans were looking to travel this year, and Los Cabos comes out as one of the clear winners!
The search history released contemplates inquiries made from November 2022 through March 2023 for trips that are set to take place from June to August of the current year.
Perhaps to the surprise of many, Americans are looking to go overseas this summer, with London being the most searched destination through the Delta website.
The second most searched destination is Cancun in the Mexican Caribbean. Cancun continues to be the most popular Mexican destination for Americans.
The Delta data perfectly reflects that. Cabo is making great strides, though, coming in as the 10th most searched city for international travel.
Ahead of Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, which was a destination that seemed to be gaining ground on Cancun prior to the pandemic.
That slide in preference by Punta Cana has helped places like Cabo and Montego Bay, Jamaica gain popularity amongst American travelers.
Direct Delta Flights To Cabo
The fact that Cabo was able to crack the top ten most searched destinations with very few direct flights from Delta to this part of the Mexican Pacific is noteworthy.
Delta only flies direct routes to Cabo from Atlanta, LAX, Salt Lake City, and Seattle. The growing demand for flights to Cabo, though, has prompted the airline to set up seasonal routes from other U.S. airports.
Through the summer Delta will be running flights to Cabo from Detroit, Minneapolis-St. Paul, and JFK in New York. Not all of these flights are going to be direct routes.
The airline has not shared with the public the type of reception that these flights would need to have in order to be offered by the airline on a regular basis.
Judging from the number of searches on the company site, though, it’s safe to assume that the demand for Cabo flights is steadily increasing.
That could lead to many of these seasonal routes becoming permanent.
Is Delta A Good Option To Fly To Cabo?
Another element that makes Cabo’s inclusion in the top international cities that Americans are looking to fly to with Delta rather impressive are the rates that Delta offers on these Cabo flights.
Flying with Delta from LAX to Cabo is going to cost travelers almost double what they would be expected to pay on budget airline Spirit Airlines.
It’s not just Spirit, though, airlines like Alaska, United, Jet Blue, and even American Airlines on some days will offer lower rates to fly to Cabo from LAX.
A roundtrip ticket on the flight that Delta operates jointly with Aeromexico to Cabo from LAX is going to cost about 500 dollars.
That’s on economy, and with checked bags being charged at an extra 60 dollars. In short, the Delta ticket to Cabo is a decent option for business travelers with miles to redeem on their Delta accounts.
Other than that, Delta offers the most expensive ticket to Cabo from LAX, which is one of the most competitive routes to Cabo for airlines. All of this makes Cabo’s inclusion much more surprising.
It’s Still A Good Time To Find Deals On Summer Flights To Cabo
Despite the fact that summer is just a couple of weeks away at this point, there are still deals to be had on flights to Cabo from major U.S. cities. As previously stated, the going rate for a direct flight to Cabo in the middle of June from LAX sits around 300 dollars on average.
What’s an even better deal, though, is the JetBlue flight out of JFK to Cabo. Currently, travelers can find tickets within that 300-dollar range.
Considering just how much further Cabo is from the East Coast than from LA, that price is one of the best deals of the summer so far.
The Delta flight out of JFK to Cabo, just for comparison, has a stop at LAX and costs almost double than the direct flight on JetBlue.
