The safety and security of travelers to Los Cabos remains a priority focus for government officials in the beach resort community.

As the winter holiday travel season hits its peak, three different initiatives are underway to invest in the protection of visitors on the vacation getaway.

47 New Firefighters

Last week, the San José del Cabo Fire Department, directed by Commander Omar Barreras Núñez, announced the graduation of 47 new firefighters sworn to serve and protect the locals and tourists in Los Cabos.

At the ceremony, the Los Cabos Municipal Director of Civil Protection, Leticia Rivera, made remarks about how the graduation of the new firefighters further strengthened the protection of tourists in Los Cabos, especially during the peak winter holiday travel season.

The new graduates are already on the job serving the Los Cabos community and the travelers to the beach resort destination as lifeguards, first responders in medical emergencies, and technicians in medical emergencies.

Each new firefighter had to undergo more than six months of training to receive their certification to work as first responders.

Holiday Security Measures

In addition to initiatives around firefighters, the Los Cabos municipal police department is also taking additional measures to provide for the safety and security of travelers on their winter holiday vacation getaway.

Law enforcement has increased the visibility and number of key community police patrols in the area, especially around tourist areas such as the hotel zone and popular tourist beaches.

During key peak travel seasons, law enforcement may be more visible in tourist areas and will be interacting more with travelers and local vendors. They may even be stationed in kiosks or towers to protect visitors to the area. Travelers may also see an increase in police dog units in tourist areas.

They also have been issuing some proactive tips to ensure travelers remain safe during a period when robbery crimes tend to increase in the area.

Some of the crimes that increase during the holiday season are petty theft of unmonitored items such as cameras, phones, and other electronic devices. Travelers should also watch out for the potential of robberies when withdrawing cash at local ATM machines in the area.

Security Camera Network

Local officials in Los Cabos have worked with local businesses, resorts, and restaurants, encouraging the installation of security cameras to connect to the remotely monitored municipal camera network.

Several businesses have joined the network, and travelers on their vacation getaway to Los Cabos will see an increased use of remote security cameras to ensure their safety in popular tourist areas such as popular beaches, shopping areas, the hotel zone, the golden zone and at restaurants.

The cameras are tied into a central monitoring center administered by municipal law enforcement in Los Cabos. Police can easily monitor large crowds and potentially risky situations for travelers in the area and quickly dispatch police or the National Guard to ensure the safety and security of tourists.

Many of the popular tourist areas are already connected to the network, and more cameras are coming online to the law enforcement protection system every month.

Tourists Should Feel Safe

Travelers enjoying their vacation getaway during the peak winter holiday travel season should feel confident that their safety and security is a priority among Los Cabos officials.

Several public initiatives are underway to protect travelers, and several less-visible security measures are in place to keep everyone safe during the holidays.

However, that does not mean that tourists can let down their guard and not take additional measures to protect themselves against crime. Travelers need to exercise the same amount of awareness and protective measures they would take when traveling away from home.

Additionally, travelers are also advised to carry an adequate amount of travel insurance to protect themselves from the possibility of crime. Many policies are affordable and can give visitors to Los Cabos additional peace of mind.
