With the spring holiday travel season quickly approaching, resorts and hotels in Los Cabos are working hard to recruit and hire employees for all available positions to make sure they are staffed up and ready for the rush of international tourists.
In the past, resorts have been challenged to find people for their available positions.
During the last winter holiday travel period, many hotels were able to provide assistance to those displaced by Hurricane Otis in Acapulco to fill the gaps.
This year, while some of those workers have remained in Los Cabos, and are still available, there is a potential of a shortfall which has the local resorts and hotels starting the spring travel rush hiring process early.
200 Jobs Immediately Available
The resorts in Los Cabos have partnered with local government agencies to recruit workers for the spring holiday travel season.
The National Employment Service of Baja California Sur has uncovered more than 200 available positions that are currently unfilled at local resorts and hotels for the upcoming busy travel season, which will start getting busy in late February.
Recently, tourist service providers, including The Marine Waterfront, Hyatt Place La Paz, and EcoBajaTours, were eagerly looking for and interviewing potential employees to provide key traveler services.
The Director General of the National Employment Service of Baja California Sur, Vladimir Torres Navarro, recently said that many positions were available for immediate hire.
Challenges Last Spring
Last spring travel season, many resorts and hotels in Los Cabos were caught short with more available positions compared with the number of employees.
It made the service level required by international travelers to the beach resort destination a big challenge for the understaffed resorts and hotels.
However, the challenge is not necessarily the unavailability of workers to serve tourists in Los Cabos. It’s having properly trained workers available to provide a high level of service to the important luxury segment traveler.
More Skills Needed
The challenge that many tourist service providers, especially the resorts and hotels in Los Cabos, face is the challenge of finding workers with hospitality skills.
As Los Cabos continues its evolution to a luxury resort destination, travelers are demanding a higher level of guest service, and that requires many workers to have above basic customer service skills.
When workers were displaced from Acapulco last winter, they brought the advanced hospitality skills that were needed in Los Cabos.
However, with Acapulco starting to recover, those workers took the skills with them.
Therefore, this spring travel season, many of the resorts and hotels in Los Cabos will have to train workers to provide the level of guest service demanded by international luxury travelers.
Meanwhile, travelers to Los Cabos just may have to be a little more understanding.
Advice for Los Cabos Visitors
While the resorts and hotels are working hard to ensure that they are fully staffed and fully trained to support the needs of international guests in Los Cabos, there may be a shortfall in times that don’t meet the demands of travelers.
Los Cabos is a boomtown with resorts being added and the competition for workers being fierce. The resort openings continue to outpace the trained staff to work in the resorts.
While many luxury travelers may not be understanding of service shortfalls, it’s helpful to give some understanding and flexibility on a vacation getaway to Los Cabos.
The workers are dedicated to tourism, and luxury travel is relatively new to Los Cabos.
Travelers will definitely have an amazing experience visiting the beach resort destination of Los Cabos. However, things will improve further with time as the hospitality workers adjust to the new luxury travel segment customers in Los Cabos.
