Why Los Cabos Tourists Are Unhappy With Ground Transportation Options

It’s important for Los Cabos to remain efficient to get around, but some travelers to the popular beach getaway are not impressed.

Some conditions around Los Cabos just don’t hit the mark of tourists’ expectations. According to a new report, the Tourism Trust (Fiturca) gathered these were tourists top concerns in terms of ground transportation:

  • Lack of public transportation
  • Poor road conditions
  • Traffic congestion

In particular, traffic seems to be at the top of tourists’ minds with worries about getting to and from the airport.

But all of the above and more make getting around Los Cabos tougher than it should be. Tourists are leaving their vacation with a negative perception.

The good news is Los Cabos officials are hearing visitors’ concerns loud and clear and are taking action to give them a better experience.

Lack Of Public Transportation

Fiturca conducts tourist surveys to address these matters, and they are letting it be known that lack of public transportation is a big concern.

Los Cabos is one of the top luxury destinations in the world. When one thinks of luxury, one may think of having anything you want at your fingertips.

While taking public transit may be more closely associated with budget travelers, a place of Los Cabo’s caliber would still greatly benefit from more transportation options.

Having a more affordable way to get around the sites and avoid taxi’s surging prices, would be extremely beneficial for tourists.

Los Cabos does have Suburcabos, a cheap bus service that runs from Cabo San Lucas to San Jose del Cabo.

But tourists say it’s not enough. In fact, the service holds a measly 2-star rating out of 5 on Google.

Sky-High Taxi Fares

Without efficient public transit, travelers are left scrambling on how to best get around and explore all Los Cabos has to offer.

If you plan ahead, perhaps you booked a stay in one of Cabo’s ritzy resorts which may offer a free shuttle service.

Otherwise, you may find yourself in a pickle deciding between Uber and super expensive taxis. What it may come down to is where you are trying to go.

Many resorts offer excursions where safe transportation is provided, but what if you want to take a day trip to Todos Santos?

In that case, it may be best to rent a car as a taxi definitely would definitely bruise your bank account.

Traffic Concerns

No matter where travelers are in the world, traffic can be a real downer. Getting stuck bumper to bumper is a real time-waster and can take our feelings of vacation bliss to extreme frustration.

Traffic concerns rank at the top for tourists in Los Cabos, mainly because of fear of missing flights. The airport is outside the city, so even without traffic it’s a trek to get there.

“It continues in the exit survey indicating that mobility is one of the concerns that visitors have the most when they are at the destination; that is, vehicular traffic particularly affects the perception that visitors have, especially when they want to get to the airport or want to move to the destination.

– Rodrigo Esponda Cascajares, Director of Fiturca

Mr. Cascajeres went on to say that this issue has been highly criticized, seeing recent increases in travelers’ traffic concerns.

There may be no instant fix, but strategies are being developed to alleviate the concerns.

Poor Road Conditions

Road conditions were not at the top of the list for tourists concerns, but they did make the cut. Driving on poorly maintained streets can lead to safety issues.

Nobody wants to spend their vacation days fixing a flat tire from a car they just rented. But really, when travelers come to Los Cabos, they want to experience the best of the best.

When you’re hitting pothole after pothole coming into paradise, it takes away from the allure of your dream vacation.

Fiturca has confirmed meetings are being held regarding the Urban Development Plan (PDU) 2040 to confront infrastructure issues and find ways to give tourists a better overall experience getting around.

I am a “all inclusive” kinda guy. Somehow after 30yrs we got suck up in a time share and Los Cabo’s was only place available for us at that time. So we tried…. this is my conclusion: 1- the food is as expensive, some places is more than US. 2-Uber and rent transportation as well. 3-If you get a parking ticket? Watch out lol We had to paid for $300 for one otherwise they take your license plate from yr rental :-0 4-I can not swim in beach due to riptide after 6 beaches searched and end up with a public beach at a marina. 5-Resort are nice But again food are expensive. People are trying to lured you in all kinda stuff. I would not go back. I went 2nd week of September. However the people are nice :-).

Cabo has a airport 8 miles away from the marina. I don't understand they don't have commercial flights flying there. It would be much more convenient for tourists and locals. San Jose will have a airport and Cabo San Lucas will have theirs.

I think if you're worried about costs of transportation and road conditions Cabo is not the place for you. It was a small fishing village not so long ago. I would suggest other towns that progess has already been established.

Been going for over 20 years. Taxis are not that expensive and prices have been consistent . They are everywhere. Dirt roads are off the main roads you should not be going there anyway. Traffic can be heavy but moves right along.
