Los Cabos remains a relatively safe beach resort destination in Mexico to visit, according to a new report from the Attorney General of Baja California Sur, Daniel de la Rosa Anaya.
Less Than 100 Crimes in 2022
The Attorney General of Baja California Sur has highlighted Los Cabos as a pretty safe for tourists according to the number of crimes and incidents reported in 2022.
A total of 68 crimes were reported to Los Cabos police during the entire year. The main crimes reported by foreign visitors were theft, damage, and threats.
Assistance Available For Tourists
The local police officials pointed out that there are services available to assist foreign visitors in reporting crimes during their vacations in Los Cabos.
In fact, there are a number of trained bilingual investigators ready to help with the process of filing incidents in the municipality.
The local police have undergone a number of comprehensive training sessions to help officers respond to local issues involving visitors and ensure their cases are investigated completely.
The Tourist Service Center also is on standby and ready to provide help when needed to tourists.
Lowest Perception of Insecurity
A brand new report from Center for Research and Tourism Competitiveness (CICOTUR) Anahuac found that Los Cabos is the destination in Mexico that tourists have the lowest perception of insecurity when visiting.
They used the detailed Urban Public Safety Survey (ENSU) reporting to uncover the level of security visitors felt when visiting different tourist centers of Mexico.
This is in response to many tourists declaring that destination security and a sense of safety was a very important quality in deciding where to visit for vacation. This factor has been on the increase as an important feature over the last few years.
Partners For Security
The Los Cabos Hotel Association and the Attorney General’s Office have been working closely together to not only ensure the safety of visitors to Los Cabos but also to ensure that any crimes are properly reported.
They both want to ensure that visitors to Los Cabos have an accurate picture of the safety of the beach resort destination when making the decision of where to vacation in Mexico.
Response To U.S. Government Claims
The Attorney General’s Office is also working closely with the United States Department of State to make sure that the data is properly captured and incorporated into any future traveler warnings issued by the U.S. federal agency.
The travel warnings are an important factor for visitors when deciding international destinations for vacations, and Los Cabos should be properly represented.
The open communication between the two agencies has been able to keep Los Cabos properly listed as a relatively safe vacation destination in Mexico.
The strategy behind the meetings is also to promote the strategic collaboration between the two groups and adequately promote the safety tourists from the United States have when visiting Los Cabos.
Other tourist places have not had the same relationship with the United States Department of State and consequently have lower safety ratings than Los Cabos.
What it Means For Visitors To Los Cabos
Visitors to Los Cabos should feel comfortable knowing that traditional international safety precautions are all that are needed to feel safe in Los Cabos.
This includes items like safeguarding valuables, being aware of surroundings, not putting themselves in the way of danger and taking standard precautions in hotel rooms and other amenities.
According to the United States Department of State, the types of precautions recommended for other destinations in Mexico are not required for Baja California Sur and Los Cabos.
However, visitors should be prepared for any changes to the threat level by enrolling in the United States Department of State Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) traveler alert program before leaving for vacation in Los Cabos.
Travelers insurance is also recommended for a safe vacation and peace of mind.
