If you needed one more reason to bring your clubs to Cabo, here it is: Solmar Golf Links in Cabo San Lucas has just been voted Latin America’s Best Golf Course 2025 by the World Golf Awards, beating out top layouts from Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, and beyond.
We at The Cabo Sun have been tracking Cabo’s rise as a serious golf powerhouse for years, but this trophy is a big deal even by local standards.
Here’s what the award means, what makes Solmar special, and how to actually plan a round there on your next trip.

A World Golf Awards win that puts Cabo on top
The World Golf Awards are one of the most respected recognitions in the sport, with winners chosen through an open vote involving industry pros, specialized media, and everyday golfers around the world.
In the 12th edition of the awards, Solmar Golf Links walked away with the title of Latin America’s Best Golf Course 2025, officially putting a Cabo course at the top of the entire region.
For travelers, that means two things:
- You don’t have to fly all the way to Scotland or Hawaii for a bucket-list round.
- Cabo’s already hot golf scene (with over 20 courses and more on the way) just added another headline brag.
If you’ve read our recent breakdown of how Los Cabos is trending as one of Mexico’s ultimate winter escapes for 2025, you know high-end experiences like this are a big part of why the destination keeps smashing records.

What makes Solmar Golf Links so special?
A few fast facts regarding the course:
- Designer: Greg Norman, one of golf’s most famous names, brought his “least disturbance” philosophy here — shaping the 18 holes around existing dunes, arroyos, and desert terrain instead of bulldozing everything flat.
- Setting: The course stretches across an 834-acre coastal community about 10–15 minutes from downtown Cabo San Lucas, with Pacific views on virtually every hole.
- Yardage: Around 7,200 yards from the back tees, giving better players plenty of bite while still offering playable options from forward tees.
Solmar isn’t just pretty — it’s also one of Cabo’s greenest golf stories. It was the first course in Los Cabos to earn Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary status, a recognition held by fewer than 1,000 courses worldwide.

That certification reflects things like:
- smarter water use
- preserved native habitat
- wildlife-friendly landscaping
If you loved our feature on Los Cabos hotels proving sustainability doesn’t mean you lose out on luxury, this is the same idea translated into a full-scale championship course.
Design-wise, a few details golfers geek out over:
- an island green on the 17th that’s become one of the most photographed shots in the region
- revetted pot bunkers built with recycled artificial turf
- salt-tolerant Paspalum grass that stays green even in Cabo’s salty, windy environment
And in winter, you might literally see humpback whales breaching from holes 2 and 12, which is about as “only in Cabo” as it gets.

Where it is and how to actually play it
Solmar Golf Links sits just up the Pacific coast from the Cabo San Lucas marina, right next to Grand Solmar Pacific Dunes Resort Golf & Spa.
If you’re staying at that resort, you’ll have easy access to tee times and stay-and-play packages. We’ve already covered the property’s expansion and rebrand in our story on how this popular Los Cabos resort announced rebranding and exciting expansion, and this award is only going to make those rooms more in demand.
The good news: you don’t have to be a scratch golfer or a resort guest to enjoy the course. In our Los Cabos golf hack guide, we flagged Solmar’s twilight rounds as one of the best ways to save big on green fees — with after-3 p.m. slots coming in lower than peak morning times while still giving you sunset light and cooler temps.

When to visit for the best round
Timing matters in Cabo, especially now that winter high season is already ramping up with projected occupancy around 75% or more.
If golf is a priority, we’d suggest:
- Winter (Dec–March): Prime whale season and the crispest playing conditions, but also peak crowds and prices. Our guides to beating the high season rush and bracing for packed high season are worth a read before you book.
- Shoulder months (late October, early November, late April–May): Our month-by-month planning guide and November cheat sheet explain why these windows can be the sweet spot between weather, rates, and tee time availability.
If you’re still debating which month gives you the best mix of golf, beaches, and budget, start with You Could Be Visiting Los Cabos At The Wrong Time: Here’s How To Pick The Perfect Month — we packed it with crowd, price, and weather data based on what we track year-round.

Turning your round into a full Cabo golf getaway
This award doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Los Cabos already showed up four times on Golf Digest’s list of Mexico’s best golf resorts, and more big-name projects are coming from designers like Tiger Woods and Ernie Els.
Add that to everything we’ve been reporting on — from Cabo’s record-breaking visitor numbers to why it now attracts everyone from Gen Z travelers to snowbirds — and you’ve got a destination where a “quick golf weekend” can easily become your favorite annual trip.
For now, though, the headline is simple:
Los Cabos doesn’t just feel like one of Latin America’s golf capitals anymore — it has the hardware to prove it, and Solmar Golf Links is officially the course to beat.

This is a Scam Warning! We were the victims of an ongoing tourist scam at the International airport near San Jose. Promises are made that no traveller will pay taxes, but in the US, customers of this company carrying their branded bags are immediately pulled over in customs to pay taxes. My wife was not given a receipt and was the victim of a high-pressure sales pitch where her credit card was charged nearly $10,000.00 US dollars. US customs are well aware of this scam and can immediately identify scammed customers as they deplane. I have pictures of the store and would be happy to send them. Please warn other tourists to avoid this trap!
