Los Cabos isn’t the only treasured destination in Southern Baja. Although iconic and mega-popular for vacations, exploring beyond Los Cabos can make for a dreamy vacation too.
Sometimes, the beach crowds can infringe on our comfort, which makes for the perfect excuse to take a day trip or weekend getaway.
Todos Santos and Miraflores are a pair of charming towns within close distance worth checking out, but La Paz is a 2-hour trip to an alternative paradise.
There is an iconic hotel undergoing a $10 million renovation where travelers will soon get to check out all the new updates in this gorgeous coastal city.
Eyes On The Prize
Picking the right hotel can cause a lot of travel anxiety, especially when it’s not just a business trip. When we splurge on a glamorous vacay, we want the best of the best for what we spend.
And in Cabo, you know you’re likely spending big bucks! Home to some of the best beachfront all-inclusive resorts in Mexico, these are hard to pass up.
However, if you do pass the all-inclusive option, you may want to go with a familiar name. Hilton has their eyes on the prize for new additions to Los Cabos and the surrounding area.
As such a popular vacation hotpsot, the iconic company has taken over 2 properties – the first in Los Cabos and the other in nearby La Paz.
The 70-room Tropicana Los Cabos is in San Jose del Cabo, while the 90-room Perla La Paz is the property with millions poured in for upgrades.
Both hotels will be featured in the company’s Tapestry Collection by Hilton, the first of this class in Baja, and are slated to open in ‘early 2024’.
“Both of these unique properties encapsulate the vibrant personality of La Paz and San Jose del Cabo respectively and we look forward to offering guests authentic experiences at each property as they explore Baja California.”

The Perla La Paz
What would you do with $10 million? You probably wouldn’t renovate a hotel in an underrated coastal paradise, but that’s what Hilton has opted to do with their boatload of cash.
From the looks of it, travelers will soon agree that was a great decision. This vintage Art Deco property built in 1940 was in need of a facelift.
But don’t worry, this remodel has been handled with precision, unlike some of the botched puffy-cheek facelifts you may be imagining.
It will keep the features that have made it an attractive stay all along, but with an added new flair. Even before the revamp began, the hotel has always been set in a prime location along La Paz’s boardwalk, where it’s easily walkable to nice restaurants and surrounded by stunning views.
The Upgrades
In typical Art Deco fashion, the hotel will feature pastel colors of pinks and greens throughout the fresh new design.
Rooms have been revamped with more space than ever before surrounding the hotel’s scenic courtyard.
There’s no better way to wake up than to take in the jaw-dropping views of Baja from your room’s breezy terrace.
The ground level will be home to the property’s full-service restaurant yet to be named, while upstairs will hold the El Muchado lounge – the first of a pair of lounges to open.
A new state-of-the-art spa and gym will be accessible to guests on the second floor, while the top floor will be where you can relax at the pool, bar or Madre Perla lounge.
Why Visit La Paz?
La Paz can be a blip on your Los Cabos itinerary or your main stay. This phenomenal coastal city offers a vast array of outdoor adventures and stays are much more palatable than Los Cabo’s sky-high rates.
This city is a foodie’s dream with delightful seafood, and tourists will often experience less crowds as it’s not as well known as Cabo.
You can spend your days at a nice hotel or pristine beaches or immerse yourself in nature with a whale tour, snorkeling, or discover hidden gems, such as El Mogote.
