Los Cabos is an extremely popular vacation destination and growing more and more popular by the day, breaking tourism records even beyond pre-pandemic numbers.  The area, which includes Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, is particularly popular among American tourists for a number of reasons we’ll explain here.

In fact, there was a more than 22 percent growth in U.S. passenger arrivals on airline flights between January and September 2022 compared to 2019.  But travelers from five U.S. cities, in particular, seem to love Los Cabos the most, based on how many passengers fly from their airports to Los Cabos International Airport every year.

The 5 U.S. Cities That Love Los Cabos The Most

Of all the cities that Americans can fly out of to get to Los Cabos, though, the sunny region is the most popular among five cities specifically, according to recent data released by the Los Cabos Tourism Board. Based on the increase in the number of seats scheduled for the next six months, those cities, as well as the percentage increase of seats over the same period in 2019, are as follows:

  1. Phoenix (PHX) +78.8%
  2. Denver (DEN) +46.2%
  3. Los Angeles (LAX) +41.8%
  4. Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) +23.6%
  5. Houston (HOU) +9.2%

So what makes the area so popular for Americans?

Los Cabos Weather

Much of the reason Americans love Cabo so much has to do with the weather, specifically the weather during the winter months when it’s cold in U.S. states that are in the northern part of the country.  The weather in Cabo is mild all year and in the winter months, it’s nearly perfect, with average low temperatures of around 60 and average highs of around 80.  The sun is still shining in Cabo during the winter months too, as the region gets about 350 days of sunshine a year.

Location, Location, Location

Another reason San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas are so loved by Americans is their location in proximity to the United States.  Los Cabos is located in the Mexican state of Baja California Sur, which is literally connected to the U.S. state of California, making it possible to even drive to the region.  The close proximity also means fairly quick direct flights from many U.S. cities, and with the right research airline tickets from some airports can be found for less than $300 roundtrip.

All-Inclusive Luxury

While there are a few all-inclusive type resorts spread out among various states in the U.S., they are few and far between and most of them aren’t quite like what you’ll find in the Los Cabos region.  There are some pretty luxurious all-inclusive resorts in Los Cabos, many offering some pretty amazing amenities.  For example, it is not uncommon to find properties that offer 24-hour room service, a daily stocked mini fridge, top-shelf liquors, and gourmet dining.

Wide Range of Activities

The diverse landscape and the perpetually nice weather in Los Cabos make it an ideal place to enjoy all kinds of recreational activities, especially outdoor activities. Everything from boat tours to sailing, water adventures like snorkeling and scuba diving, and desert tours by camel, horse, or ATV can be enjoyed almost any time of the year.  In Los Cabos, you will also be in the perfect location to explore Mexican culture and history.

Tourist Activites Around Cabo Beaches

These four reasons are enough to make anybody want to visit Los Cabos, but more Americans visit the area than tourists from any other country.  There are approximately 24 U.S. cities with airports that currently offer direct flights to Los Cabos International Airport, with numerous different airlines operating between all these cities.  Many of these airlines offer multiple flights each week.
