Los Cabos is one of the most connected destinations for a sunny vacation, but which airline should you take to get here?

When booking a trip to Los Cabos you have to consider your budget first and foremost since this highly popular beach getaway oozes luxury at every turn.

And we all know luxury doesn’t come cheap no matter where you go. Resorts will probably top the most expensive part of your trip with airfare following close behind.

Many U.S. carriers fly into Los Cabos from many major airports in mainland America, so should you go with who has the lowest price or the best safety rating?

Although, air travel is the safest form of getting from A to B, isn’t it an extra layer of comfort knowing your airline is one of the safest in the world?

That’s the case for 4 major airlines with direct flights to Los Cabos in AirlineRatings’ annual report of the safest airlines in the world.

Perhaps the best part of all is Cabo is highly regarded as a safe destination too, so your mind can be at ease knowing you’re in good hands in the air and on the ground.

United Airlines

Squeaking by in the top 25 is United Airlines, a hugely popular airline travelers love in the U.S. No matter if you’re located on the west coast, east coast or multiple major cities in between, United offers a variety of direct flights to Baja’s top paradise.

Right now, they are on fire! Not literally, of course. That would be a problem. In terms of performance, United just broke an all-time record with a 99.7% completion rate for flights in December.

As we are now in the dead of winter, hopefully that continues for travelers in desperate need of sun heading to Los Cabos.

Air Canada

Finishing just one spot ahead of United in terms of safety, Air Canada comes in 24th for the safest airline in 2024.

Rivaling WestJet as Canada’s only other major airline with nonstop flights to Cabo, Air Canada is deemed the safer option for Canadians who want to trade in winter snow for winter sun and savory poutine for mouth-watering tacos.

Air Canada flies direct to Los Cabos from three cities experiencing freezing temperatures this week: Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.

Other flight options for Canadians are Flair Airlines and Sunwing Airlines who did not sniff the top 25 list.

American Airlines

Ranking 22nd in AirlineRatings’ latest list is the ultra popular American Airlines. This industry behemoth is recognized worldwide, but many U.S. travelers choose to take American to Los Cabos for the ultimate vacation.

Edging out starch competitor United, American is a slightly better bet for an event-free trip in the skies to southern Baja.

Between both American and United, both are among the most connected airlines in the continental U.S.

Reaching Los Cabos will be no issue, especially with direct flights from Dallas (DFW), Los Angeles (LAX) and Chicago (ORD) to name a few.

Alaska Airlines

In fairness, AirlineRatings concluded their latest report before Alaska Airlines found themselves in a pickle after takeoff where the emergency exit door blew wide open!

Fortunately, all passengers were unharmed, but that doesn’t exactly portray ‘safest airline in America’ now does it?

Before this crazy event, Alaska Airlines had a few days to bask in the glory of being named the safest U.S. carrier.

The airline, popular more so on the West Coast, is expanding their flight network with new flights to Los Cabos from Las Vegas, but this isn’t the only option.

Alaska flies nonstop to Los Cabos from a handful of other major West Coast cities, such as San Diego (SAN), Seattle (SEA) and San Francisco (SFO).

How AirlineRatings Determines Safety Rankings

According their official website, the following is the key criteria in conducting airline safety ratings for over 300 airlines:

  • COVID-19 protocols
  • Industry audits
  • Crashes within the last 5 years
  • Number of pilot-related incidents in recent years

Err Canada may be safe, but I've never been on an airline that despised it's customers more. Rude, expensive and inefficient, it's to be avoided.
