Tourists often visit Los Cabos for a beach destination getaway.

However, even when the ocean is a little rough for a day at the beach around Los Cabos, there are plenty of other water activities to enjoy just a short day trip north.

Santiago

Located just 30 kilometers from Los Cabos, Santiago has plenty of natural water adventures for tourists to enjoy.

The town, celebrating 300 years of its founding this year, is a throwback to a traditional Mexican town with a classical heritage.

The local ranch heritage is on display at San Dionisio Canyon, where tourists can interact with animals, including goats and cows, and learn how to milk the animals.

They can also learn more about many of the traditional products made in the area from the two types of milk.

It’s also a great place for nature lovers who are looking for some water to enjoy beyond the beaches of Los Cabos.

Tourists can start their day trip to Santiago by visiting the nearby Sol de Mayo ecological area with its scenic waterfall area.

At the Sol de Mayo, visitors can enjoy swimming in pools created by mountain falls and dip into pristine rivers of cool, refreshing water.

They can also enjoy taking in the beauty of the local area by hiking, rock climbing, and mountaineering in the natural wilderness areas at Sol de Mayo.

If a visitor would rather enjoy a dip in a natural hot spring, Santiago is located less than 10 miles away from the soothing hot springs of Agua Caliente, Zorro, El Chorro, and Santa Rita.

Miraflores

When it comes to hot springs adventures near Los Cabos, Miraflores is another town that should be at the top of the list for travelers.

Located right on the banks of a river flowing from the Sierra de la Laguna mountains, Miraflores is connected to water and the natural scenery that surrounds the picturesque town.

Along with plenty of water experiences, tourists visiting Miraflores can enjoy a day in a traditional Mexican town that has not been overridden by commercialism.

In fact, some of the traditional restaurants in the town have been operated by the same owners and families for more than 50 years.

Plenty of Adventures for Travelers

Just because the beaches in Los Cabos may be red-flagged and dangerous for tourists due to tropical weather systems doesn’t mean that an enjoyable vacation with water adventures is off the list.

Travelers will find plenty of water fun, in addition to other traditional cultural opportunities, just about an hour inland from Los Cabos in the mountains.

Waterfalls, hot springs, and even mountain rivers are waiting to be explored either on foot or in the water.

That’s in addition to plenty of opportunities to learn about local traditional industries, handicrafts, and of course plenty of great food to enjoy.

Two wonderful day trip places to start are the nearby towns of Santiago and Miraflores.
