The evolution of Los Cabos from a cheap party spot to an upscale luxury beach resort destination has never been more clear than it is now.

From championship golf courses and relaxing spa amenities to deluxe resort hotel rooms, travelers are seeing a new version of Los Cabos rise from the desert.

The changes are now starting to be recognized by luxury travel providers that offer upscale service to tourists who prefer the finer things in life for their beach vacation getaway.

Virtuoso Survey Results

The global luxury travel network Virtuoso recently announced the findings of their survey of luxury travel providers, preferred partners, and ulta-high-net-worth travelers to uncover the trends that will shape destination travel for the remainder of the year.

The main point of the survey results was that vacation travel is not showing any warning signs of an economic slowdown.

The post-pandemic international trend is expected to evolve and shift, but not end this year.

In fact, travel among the luxury segment is already showing a strong trend of bookings into 2024 and 2025, and many of those are for Los Cabos.

Wellness, an amenity focus for Los Cabos, is one of the hottest trends in luxury travel and is expected to grow for the next few years.

Nearly half of luxury travelers are expected to spend $5,000-$10,000 on vacations with a wellness focus.

Culinary travel, especially with a focus on food and wine experiences, also is rapidly expanding with higher-income Baby Boomers and Generation X tourists.

Mexico a Key Autumn Destination

This fall, five countries are the focus for international travelers – the United States, Italy, France, the United Kingdom, and Mexico.

Many traditional hotspots around the world have recently hiked hotel rates in response to the strong demand from international travelers.

For example, Florence, Italy recently hiked room rates in the popular Tuscan city by more than 35 percent.

Still looking for an international luxury travel destination deal? The Virtuoso report says to try Los Cabos, where hotels recently scaled back rates.

Luxury Los Cabos

Los Cabos has been focused on repositioning the Mexican beach town as more of a luxury resort destination over the past couple of years.

Research from the Los Cabos Tourism Trust identified three key travel trends – nature, wellness, and sustainability – that have shaped the focus of recent tourism outreach.

That’s why much of the focus of Los Cabos’ development has been on championship golf courses and deluxe spa amenities.

The next round will be working on the development of the Los Cabos culinary scene with more fine-dining restaurants and experiences for upscale, affluent travelers.

Impact to Los Cabos Travelers

As more luxury customers plan upscale vacation getaways to the beach resort destination, travelers to Los Cabos can expect more amenities available to accommodate their needs.

This is great for tourists visiting Los Cabos as it gives them more options of things to do and participate in while enjoying a vacation.

However, there are some budget adjustments that will be needed by some travelers to Los Cabos.

Those who count on Los Cabos as being a cheap weekend getaway with low-priced hotel rooms and discount flights may want to think again.

While some Los Cabos hotels may have lowered the cost of room rates for the slower summer season, they will quickly be back to well over $400 per night once the fall and holiday travel season kicks in.

Flights will also be going up in price as a larger group of travelers focused on luxury are willing to pay more for flights to Los Cabos.

Amenities will most likely also need to raise their prices as customers demand more value and services for their luxury vacation getaway in Los Cabos.
