This area is a tranquil gem home to just 2,000 residents and roughly an hour north of the Los Cabos International Airport on some of the peninsula’s finest coastline.

Due to an influx of travelers heading this way, the government has officially announced a new highway that will connect this region straight from the Los Cabos’ main airport.

As of now, the most efficient way to reach La Ribera would be to take Mexico 1 for about an hour. The drive is definitely worth it, but new plans should eliminate traffic congestion or, at the very least, help.

Why Has La Ribera Become A Hotspot?

La Ribera is a pure paradise for a fisherman. Tourists can catch a huge trophy fish to brag to their friends.

It’s a common spot to lure in Marlin, Tuna and Wahoo, to name a few. Others are more interested in other water activities such as kayaking, snorkeling, paddle-boarding and even diving for a true adventurer.

It’s not only the blue waters that are a top attraction; it’s being outside in general. Visitors can go hiking, camping and lounge at beautiful beaches.

This area is also super safe. Sometimes there are travel advisories for Los Cabos that can turn people away, even though there is rarely violent crime.

More often than not, it’s petty crime and typical tourist scams to be aware of when traveling. But here in La Ribera, the quiet, calm atmosphere is more welcoming to those seeking peace and safety for a worry-free getaway.

Highway Information

Although the government has made the new highway project official, there is no timeframe confirmed as of yet.

What it does include is the plan to expand the lanes from 7 to 12 to relieve congestion and allow more room to pull over in emergencies.

Cornering roads and taking away some curves will also improve the safety of drivers. Plus, new paving to make roads much smoother. Nobody wants a flat tire on vacation!

It is estimated the entire project will extend up to 25 miles (40 kilometers). The project is just that, a project until further notice.

Right now, everything is an estimation until further notice. More announcements are expected next year when more information is gathered after completing the first steps.
