Hurricane season in Los Cabos is already well underway but still far from over. It runs from May through November.   

Due to the warmer waters, the number and strength of storms typically ramp up between July and October.   

For this reason, it makes sense that the U.S. Consulate has issued a travel alert, with guidance for tourists visiting the destination during hurricane season.

What The U.S. Consulate Says About Airport Closures 

One of the things that the U.S. Consulate warned of is the possibility of airport closures.   

Even when the airport reopens after a closure, there will be limited flight availability because many travelers will be in the same situation.   

This can result in extended delays in getting back to your home country. 

What The U.S. Consulate Says About Hurricane Shelters 

There are shelters in Los Cabos for the general public and for tourists visiting the destination when a hurricane hits.   

Shelters are not necessarily somewhere you want to be while on vacation, though.   

The U.S. Consulate warns that storm shelters in Los Cabos may have a limited amount of supplies, so it’s important to consider this when visiting during hurricane season.

While you can’t avoid a hurricane that hits when you’re already on vacation in Los Cabos, you can prepare for the unfortunate case of it happening.

While the official hurricane season in Los Cabos technically lasts from May through November, it’s the latter half of that period, particularly September, that is the stormiest part of the season.   

Even so, it’s not common for hurricanes to make landfall in Los Cabos.   

It’s more common for the destination to experience the effects of tropical storms, which again, are more frequent towards the end of the official season.
