What happened?

The explosion was caused by a gas leak in the kitchen area of the famous Hacienda del Mar Hotel.

The Cabo San Lucas Fire Department Units 49, 57, 64, and 65 were immediately sent to the site to provide help.

The four injured people were transferred to the nearest hospital for medical evaluation. As of today, it is still unclear whether those injured are tourists or hotel employees. Local news reported that no one had to evacuate the building.

In light of the recent events, tourists heading to Los Cabos soon may now be wondering whether this area is safe for visitors.

Is Los Cabos safe?

Despite this recent accident, Los Cabos remains one of the safest municipalities in Mexico. Hotels’ safety standards tend to be extremely high here, and controls are carried out regularly.

Not by chance, the Los Cabos government has made it its number one priority to maintain high safety standards to ensure tourists continue to choose this area for their holidays.

This is because most of the people living in this municipality work in the tourism sector, meaning that if safety levels ever decrease, travelers would probably start choosing another destination for their holidays, causing an economic crisis for the region.

This is the main reason why local authorities are constantly implementing new initiatives and projects to better protect tourists.

For instance, the Los Cabos government is now working on a series of new measures to ensure everyone stays safe during the huge influx of visitors expected to flock to this area for the upcoming spring break.

Better safety

According to local news, more security forces have been displaced in the downtown area of Cabo San Lucas, where most of the students will gather to celebrate their vacations.

On top of this, Los Cabos is now cracking down on street vendors selling fake services to bathers.

Foreign tourists visiting this area are especially prone to this type of scam, not knowing whether a certain vendor is authorized to sell its goods or not.

Last but not least, Los Cabos is now trying to improve its road safety. Road patrols have been added in several areas of the municipality to make sure drivers respect speed limits.

But why are so many tourists expected to flock to Los Cabos soon?

Why do springbreakers keep choosing Los Cabos?

With plenty of all-inclusive resorts to choose from and a total of 25 blue-verified beaches to relax before finals, Los Cabos remains one of the most popular in Mexico among spring breakers.

Not by chance, recent estimates show how this municipality will soon experience a 75% hotel occupancy rate.

Apart from wild parties and beach activities such as surfing and diving, Los Cabos offers an incredible variety of experiences for all types of tourists.

Animal lovers can opt for a whale-watching tour, or try swimming with whale sharks in La Paz. Alternatively, bird watchers can head to the San José del Cabo estuary to try to spot some of the many migratory birds living here.

People who want to immerse themselves in unspoiled nature can do so in the Sierra de La Laguna Mountain Range, where they will find plenty of hiking routes for all fitness levels.

If, on the other hand, your idea of a holiday is synonymous with relaxation, you can spend your days in one of the many spas in the municipality before heading to a luxurious restaurant for the ultimate fine-dining experience.
