Many factors work together to make Los Cabos not just one of the top destinations in Mexico, but one of the best in the whole world.
Luxurious accommodation, outstanding service and welcoming locals, extensive amenities in the resorts that cater to every vacation imaginable, and of course some of the greatest food on the face of the earth.
But there is one thing that has been bringing travelers to Los Cabos from day one, back when the destination was an almost secret hideaway for Hollywood celebrities in the 1950s and 1960s: the beaches.
Across Los Cabos, the tourism industry and local authorities understand just how important these beautiful stretches of sand are to the destinations’ appeal, which is why there has been a lot of anxiety about the potential effect Los Cabos’ rapid expansion may have on its beaches.
Construction work is disruptive by nature, but its potential impact on the cleanliness of the beaches is something that could tarnish Los Cabos’ reputation.
Thankfully, the precautions put in place and required of the construction contractors have been successful.
Recent investigations show that while the destination expands, the beaches remain as pristine and welcoming as ever.
Blue Flag Excellence
Los Cabos beaches aren’t just marketed as being fantastic in brochures, a total of 33 across the region carry the hyper-respected blue flag certification, a marker of excellence where beaches are concerned.
A big aspect of blue flag certification is the continued inspection and need for re-certification each year that comes with the accolade. This constant oversight ensures that the blue flag mark is an endorsement travelers can trust.
A Side-Effect Of Growing Appeal
The construction in Los Cabos is a talking point because of its potential impact on the destination’s beaches, as mentioned above, but it could potentially have a very positive impact on travelers.
Los Cabos is one of the few destinations in the world that experiences constant growth as a tourism destination, bar a few extreme situations like the financial crash of 2008, and of course the recent event of COVID.
In previous years, the resort industry of Los Cabos has managed to keep supply in line with demand, but post-pandemic things have gone up a gear, a trend seen across Mexico in other destinations like Cancun, Tulum, and Puerto Vallarta.
This has led to an explosion in construction, with some brands building their 2nd, and in some cases 3rd, resort in the destination to capture part of this new popularity.
The Positive For Travelers
What is the positive of all this construction? Hopefully, stable vacation prices for years to come.
The inflation inflicted on everyone this past year has made most things more expensive, including vacations, on top of this the strong performance of the Mexican peso has further impacted costs for Americans.
This is why a slump in supply and more competition between travelers for accommodation is a situation every potential visitor should hope doesn’t happen.
For reasonable pricing, travelers need resorts to compete against each other for their custom. This doesn’t just give travelers a better return on costs, keeping the price per night competitive, but it also spurs resorts to offer more amenities, activities, and entertainment to further convince travelers they are the resort to choose.
Choosing A Resort
Travelers aren’t short on options when it comes to accommodation in Los Cabos, the destination is full of outstanding luxurious resorts, as well as mid-price and budget options that open the destination up to all travelers.
Furthermore, the ever-growing vacation-rental ecosystem in Los Cabos adds an extra dynamic, providing private, luxurious choices that cater to travelers with more specific tastes.
Overall, choosing a resort in Los Cabos can be a challenge, not because of a lack of choice but because there are just so many awesome places to choose between.
