Los Cabos Among Busiest Areas In Mexico As The Destination Skyrockets In Popularity

Share The Article

In recent years, Los Cabos has slowly climbed the popularity ladder, becoming one of the most popular destinations in Mexico.

With plenty of all-inclusive resorts to choose from, 25-blue-flag-certified beaches, and a wide variety of activities for tourists to try, there seems to be no better place to recharge.

Not by chance, several reports published in 2023 ranked Los Cabos among the most popular destinations in the country.

The latest data released by the Ministry of Tourism confirm these stats, showing how Cabo San Lucas has recently surpassed Cancún in terms of hotel occupancy.

The data

The Ministry of Tourism recently released the statistics concerning hotel occupancy rates in Mexico in 2023.

According to these, the country has registered an average growth of 2.8%, but this is not all. Cabo San Lucas was the third destination in the country for occupancy rate, with a percentage equal to 76.8%.

According to the report, the destinations with the highest occupancy rates were Playacar and Akumal, while Cancún, Nuevo Nayarit, and Puerto Vallarta all followed Cabo San Lucas.

But why do people keep flocking to this municipality?

Great nature

Most people heading to Los Cabos do so to enjoy its stunning beaches.

Areas such as Lover’s Beach, El Chileno Beach, and El Medano Beach welcome hundreds of thousands of tourists every year due to their calm waters and breathtaking landscapes.

Not by chance, this municipality is the first in North America for the number of blue-flag-certified beaches. But Los Cabos has way more to offer to tourists.

For instance, visitors can spend their days hiking the wonderful Sierra de la Laguna mountain range or snorkeling in the unique Cabo Pulmo National Park.

Those interested in the local fauna can head to the San José del Cabo Estuary to spot unique migratory birds or travel to La Paz to watch killer whales, gray whales, and humpback whales swimming in their natural habitat.

High safety levels

Another key factor leading so many people to choose Los Cabos for their holiday is the high level of safety registered in this municipality.

According to the latest reports, most people living here not only trust the local police but consider this area a safe place.

This is mostly due to the fact that the local government has made it its number one priority to constantly increase the safety levels in this municipality through a number of initiatives.

For instance, in 2023 local authorities decided to add surveillance cameras in most tourist sites in the area.

On top of this, the local government recently decided to increase patrol controls both on Los Cabos’ most popular beaches and on the famous Transpeninsular Highway to stop people from ignoring speed limits.

Luxury resorts

Last but not least, the Los Cabos municipality is renowned for its many luxury resorts, many of which are often ranked among the best by famous magazines such as Forbes

This is the case of both Marquis Los Cabos and Breathless Los Cabos, which were recently included in Forbes’ 15 Best Adults-Only All-Inclusive Resorts in Mexico.

The former is a stunning resort extremely popular among couples, featuring beachfront pools and a delicious onsite restaurant called Canto Del Mar.

Forbes’ experts mention this is the ideal place for eco-conscious travelers thanks to the many initiatives embraced by this resort to limit its environmental impact.

Marquis Los Cabos

The latter, Breathless Los Cabos, is an excellent accommodation for “partygoers, young couples, friends groups, and birthday trips,” as Forbes’ experts suggest.

This property often organizes glow parties, DJ sets, and bubble pool fiestas to entertain its guests and is, therefore, ideal for those wanting to meet like-minded people on their spring break holiday.

Apart from the many hotels and resorts present in the municipality, massive hotel corporations such as Four Seasons and Hyatt are now building new properties, which will soon open their doors to Los Cabos tourists.

Both resorts should start welcoming guests by the end of 2024, but the official dates are still unknown.
