Travelers visiting Los Cabos International Airport in March probably had a sense that the airport was busier than normal.
According to the latest numbers issued by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico, S.A.B. de C.V., the owner of the airport, it was another month of a year-over-year increase in travelers in what is one of the top airports in the entire country for passenger counts.
More Travelers to Los Cabos
International visitors using Los Cabos International Airport in March was up more than five percent to 538,600 passengers.
This was an increase over the strong passenger count of 512,400 tourists last year.
Overall, visitors flying to Los Cabos International Airport in March topped 758,000, just nudging past Puerto Vallarta at 756,000.
The number was essentially flat with the 749,000 travelers using the airport in Los Cabos last year.
Despite the flat numbers, those results were strong enough to officially put Los Cabos International Airport over two million travelers for the year.
Additional Flights
During the month of March, there was one additional flight to the United States for travelers looking to enjoy their beach resort vacation getaway for the busy spring travel period.
Southwest Airlines launched its long-awaited nonstop service from St. Louis.
This additional route extended the connection between Los Cabos International Airport and the Midwest, which has been in need of additional nonstop flights to Los Cabos for some time.
So far, the fight has been well received with travelers and should make a convenient way for many travelers to enjoy a vacation in Los Cabos.
Preventative Engine Issue
In the news release issued by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico, S.A.B. de C.V., they officially addressed the impact that the preventative engine maintenance issue is causing with flights, routes, and passengers at Los Cabos International Airport.
Several popular airplanes used for Los Cabos flights have been affected by the Pratt & Whitney preventative engine maintenance issue, mainly the Airbus A320neo and A321neo fleet.
Several Mexican Airlines were affected by this issue.
For example, a web report states that Volaris has 45 A320neo airplanes and 28 A321neo airplanes in service. VivaAerobus also uses both types of aircraft.
At all of the Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico, S.A.B. de C.V. airports, available passenger seats actually declined more than five percent while the total load factor, or occupancy of the airplanes, was over 75 percent during the month of March.
Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico, S.A.B. de C.V. did not break out the specific numbers for Los Cabos International Airport.
What Travelers Need to Know
Los Cabos International Airport continues to become even more busy as the number of tourists visiting the hot beach resort destination continues to grow.
Now officially listed as the fourth busiest airport in the entire country, there are several tips available on our website to help travelers streamline their arrival and departure experience and get through the entire process quickly.
The most important reminder will continue to be for tourists to arrive at the airport earlier than ever for their departing flight. This tends to be the biggest challenge for many visitors to Los Cabos, which also results in a number of missed flights.
Due to the long security lines during peak travel times and seasons, most airlines recommend that international passengers arrive at Los Cabos International Airport at least three hours before the flight’s departure time.
While it does seem a little early, the airport has a number of restaurants and other amenities to help passengers pass the time stress-free after arriving early for an international flight departure.
