Recent statistics from the Los Cabos International Airport exit polls show that almost 1 in 5 travelers to Los Cabos identify as members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Los Cabos may not be marketed directly as being a destination specifically aimed at the LGBTQ+ community, but this stunning Mexican destination is super popular with the community for a whole host of reasons.

And it’s not just because it’s the easiest vacation destination south of the border for Americans to travel to, although that is a huge plus for travelers of every orientation!

This is why Los Cabos is so popular with the LGBTQ+ community:

LGBTQ+ Travelers Represent Nearly 1 in 5 Los Cabos Tourists — Here's Why

An Attitude Of Openness

Los Cabos has been welcoming sun-starved Americans to these beautiful shores since as far back as the 1960s, and from the get-go, the local’s respect for privacy and openness to alternative lifestyle choices shaped Los Cabos into the destination it is now.

In Los Cabos, the only thing the locals will judge a traveler on is their politeness.

Mexico is a strongly Catholic country with a close relationship to their religion, and Los Cabos is no different, but when it comes to people’s orientation, the vast majority of folks here don’t believe it’s their place to pass judgment.

One of the most consistently low crime statistics across Mexico is in the category relating to discrimination and fear of assault based on race, gender, or sexual orientation.

However, this doesn’t mean there are no negative people in Los Cabos; like everywhere in the world, there are always a few bad eggs.

An LGBTQ+ Friendly Resort Industry

In terms of resorts, Los Cabos is absolutely bursting at the seams with LGBTQ+ friendly accommodations.

This isn’t because resorts have singled out the community as requiring special attention. Instead, the friendly attitude comes from an unwavering commitment to providing the same level of service to travelers no matter who they are, where they’re from, or what their orientation is.

From time to time, there are even special deals and offers to be found for the LGBTQ+ community, and people can be assured they will never receive less because of who they are.

Los Cabos Pride

Los Cabos Pride is held on June 17th this year, so unfortunately for travelers not already in the country, or arriving soon, 2023 is off the table. This celebration grows larger every year, and 2024 promises to be one to look forward to.

There’s almost a full year to save and plan the perfect vacation around this colorful and lively celebration. Every cloud has a silver lining.

Recognition

In 2022 Los Cabos became the first destination in the world to be awarded the Committed Destination Distinction award, chosen by Queer Destinations, an International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association (IGLTA) affiliate.

This award is meant to recognize destinations that provide the LGBTQ+ community with a safe, dignified, pleasant, and discrimination-free stay under the standards of the IGLTA.

Unforgettable Nightlife

Plenty of people choose Los Cabos specifically for its luxurious service and stress-busting vibe. But the destination is no less famous for its hugely entertaining, and at times wild, nightlife.

Every nightclub and trendy bar in Los Cabos is open and welcoming to everyone, the destination doesn’t have a separate neighborhood for the LGBTQ+ community, but for those wanting to escape the mainstream nightclubs in Los Cabos there is Chandeliers.

Self-styled as the “official gay bar of Los Cabos”, Chandeliers has, in just a few years, become one of Los Cabos’ most beloved night spots.

On top of the awesome in-house DJs playing house music until 5 am, there are also nightly shows.
