Spring travel is hitting its absolute peak. If you are heading down to Baja California Sur for Easter 2026, you are not going to be alone on the sand.
Civil Protection authorities are officially forecasting a massive 20% to 25% increase in beach attendance during Semana Santa (Holy Week) compared to last year. Driven by spectacular, sunny weather forecasts, thousands of national and international tourists are about to descend on the coastline.
With the official Holy Week security operation launching on Monday, March 30th, here are five tactical tips to help you navigate the packed beaches, dodge the heaviest crowds, and stay safe in the surf.

1. Claim Your Sand Early
The crowds are going to be heavily concentrated at the municipality’s most famous public beaches: El Médano, Santa María, Chileno, and El Tule. If you plan on laying out a towel at any of these “Big Four” spots, the casual mid-day arrival is completely out the window.
You need to secure your spot by 9:00 a.m., or you will be fighting for inches of sand. Alternatively, bypass the public access entirely by pre-booking a reserved daybed at a private beach club.

2. Respect the Ocean Flags (High Surf Warning)
The weather might be perfect for tanning, but the ocean is currently dealing with some volatile energy. Francisco Cota Márquez from Civil Protection specifically highlighted that the city is taking extra precautions for high surf conditions during the holiday.
ZOFEMAT lifeguards will be out in full force. If they raise a red flag, do not enter the water. No matter how hot it gets, respect the safety closures, avoid swimming, and stick to your resort pool until conditions improve.

3. Anticipate the Security Grid
Whenever Cabo sees a massive influx of tourists, the city ramps up its security footprint to match.
The official 2026 Holy Week operation kicks off on March 30, bringing a heavy, highly visible presence of local police, Civil Protection, and federal forces to the beaches and highways.
Expect routine traffic checkpoints along the Tourist Corridor, heightened crowd control measures, and an incredibly safe environment.

4. The Northern Escape Route
If the sheer volume of tourists crowding Medano Beach sounds like a nightmare, use this week to explore further out.
Authorities noted that beaches in the north of the municipality will also see crowds, but they generally offer much more breathing room than the Cabo San Lucas hotel zone.
If you want a truly relaxed, laid-back vibe completely free of the all-inclusive mega-resort crowds, hire a private driver and take a day trip up the coast to the tranquil, turquoise bays of La Paz.

5. Lock In Your Logistics Now
A 25% surge in beachgoers translates directly to a 25% surge in restaurant wait times, sunset cruise bookings, and airport transportation demands. Do not wait until you land to figure out your itinerary. Pre-book your dinners and secure your private airport transfers immediately so you aren’t left scrambling on the sidewalk.

Final Thoughts
Easter in Los Cabos is incredibly vibrant and beautiful, but it requires a solid game plan.
By arriving at the beach early, respecting the high surf warnings, and perhaps escaping to quieter northern destinations when the crowds peak, you can pull off a flawless spring vacation.
