Pulling into the stunning harbor of Cabo San Lucas on a cruise ship is the ultimate way to kick off a vacation. To keep that arrival experience as smooth and pristine as possible, local authorities and business leaders are stepping up their game on the ground this summer.
If you are stepping off a ship over the coming months, you will likely notice a heightened security and surveillance presence around the city’s most popular zones. This proactive enforcement is designed to handle the sudden waves of travelers and ensure everyone enjoys a hassle-free day in port.

🚢 Target Enforcement on Arrival Days
When a major cruise liner docks, thousands of visitors stream into the downtown area at once. To keep the town running smoothly, the Los Cabos Coordinating Council is intensifying surveillance specifically on days when cruise ships are in port.
Julio Castillo Gómez, the executive president of the Coordinating Council, noted that these strategic operations are essential to maintain public order and mobility when tourist traffic spikes. The primary goal is to prevent unregulated street vending from overwhelming high-traffic spaces.

📍 Hotspots Getting an Upgrade
The increased security teams will be focusing heavily on three iconic spots you are most likely to visit on your port day:
- The Cabo San Lucas Marina: Officers are working to maintain order and stop the irregular setup of street vendors along the docks.
- The Tourist Walkway: This bustling path will see enhanced patrol units to ensure smooth, safe foot traffic for pedestrians.
- El Médano Beach: Cabo’s primary swimmable beach is a main focus for keeping vendors in check and ensuring the sand stays clear.

⛱️ The Battle of the Beach Umbrellas
One major target for the summer safety teams might surprise you: early-morning beach umbrellas.
Local authorities are urgently addressing a trend where individuals bring beach umbrellas onto El Médano early in the morning to preemptively hoard prime real estate. Because this practice is entirely illegal, security teams are working intensively to clear unauthorized setups.
This ensures that the shoreline remains wide open, fair, and accessible for tourists looking to catch a great ocean view.

☀️ What It Means for Your Vacation
Ultimately, these extra patrols mean a much better experience for your itinerary. Instead of navigating cluttered walkways or dodging aggressive sales pitches, you can look forward to a cleaner, safer, and more relaxing environment from the second you disembark.

For 30 years, the beach vendors set up shop at the bottom of the stairs to the beach in front on the Rose. While I do have my favorite vendors to buy from (for the past 30 years!) many are obnixious and are selling coke and weed, especially the ones carrying only 1 or 2 cigar boxes.
Might be a good idea to keep them moving, rather than congrigating on the beach, blocking the view.
Also, while I encourage enforcement in town, whenever the ships arrive, I stay away from downtown. WHY? Because prices for legitimate vendors DOUBLE when the ships dock! Tomorrow, they will be cheaper. Same with food.
I question if sweeping the unlicensed vendors under the carpet has something to do with the legit vendors greed?
