Yes, it will soon be Spring Break in Los Cabos. Officials are expecting more than 35,000 visitors to make their way down the Baja California peninsula for the annual springtime rite of passage.

Planning For Peak Season

Local business owners, municipal officials, and law enforcement are putting the final touches on a strategic plan to make sure travelers to Los Cabos are safe and secure enjoying their Spring Break vacation getaway to the beach resort destination.

“We are making agreements for all bars, restaurants, and clubs in ground zero of Cabo San Lucas to participate,” said President of the Association of Professionals and Business Leaders Robbin Hernández in a report about the preparations.

They started by taking the plans from successful Spring Breaks over the past couple of years in Los Cabos and updating them to create new policies, procedures, and manuals.

The participants all agree that the key to a successful Spring Break is communication between all of the parties involved.

Integrated communications ensure that everyone can work together towards the one common goal of keeping visitors safe and secure.

Upgrading Camera Networks

Local business owners, such as the El Medano Business Owners Association, have invested significantly in video surveillance cameras and systems to protect travelers and their businesses from crime.

Those cameras were connected to the entire Los Cabos regional network, which is remotely monitored and able to dispatch law enforcement support to crimes in progress.

Recently, local government authorities have been working on expanding the camera coverage to many of the tourist areas around Los Cabos and working with business owners to connect their systems to the regional network.

The result has been a strengthening of the camera network across Los Cabos to provide additional safety and security for visitors on their vacation getaway.

Added Law Enforcement

Another important part of the safety and security plan for the upcoming Spring Break in Los Cabos will be the stepped-up and very visible patrols tourists will notice around the area.

They are also planning to use canine patrols to further help with law enforcement visibility during the very busy travel season.

This will include not only municipal law enforcement but also the Mexican National Guard, Navy, and Marines on patrol.

Not only will they be highly visible on the beaches and in the main tourist areas of Los Cabos, but they will also be stationed on the Transpensisular Highway and, of course, at the very busy Fonatur Roundabout.

The added patrols will be strictly enforcing traffic regulations on the area roadways and of course looking for impaired divers who had a little too much fun on their Spring Break vacation getaway before getting behind the wheel.

What Travelers Need to Know

Also, travelers should expect to see checkpoints established in popular tourist areas, asking questions and inspecting bags to protect tourists.

Tourists should always carry identification with them when traveling internationally, especially while on vacation for Spring Break in Los Cabos. Law enforcement has the right to ask for tourist passports and Mexican visitor cards at any time.

Last, Spring Break is a popular time for tourist thefts. Be sure not to wear any expensive jewelry or leave electronics unmonitored at the pool, beach, or even in local restaurants.
