As the holiday season approaches in Los Cabos, authorities tend to see an uptick in road accidents caused by driving at excessive speeds and drinking and driving.
It’s not uncommon to see more vehicle-related accidents during the holidays, but Los Cabos officials are aiming to prevent as many as possible.
To do this, they are launching an operation to increase safety throughout Los Cabos through the holiday season.
The Guadalupe Reyes Marathon
The Guadalupe Reyes Marathon is the “holiday season” in Mexico that is celebrated between the dates of December 12 and January 6.
During this time there are numerous holidays celebrated, which is where the term “marathon” comes in.
Christmas and New Year’s are also celebrated during this time and you’ll find many other celebrations in between.

The Guadalupe Reyes Operation And Its Importance
During this “holiday marathon,” called Guadalupe Reyes, heavy drinking is apparently customary.
This is likely why officials refer to this important operation by the same name.
Though the details are not final yet, authorities will be deployed to different areas to look for drunk and reckless drivers and other safety issues that might arise during these festive weeks.

How To Stay Safe During The Holidays When Visiting Los Cabos
In addition to all of the agencies that will be making Los Cabos safer during the holiday season, there are things you can do to enhance your own safety as well.
Avoid riding with anyone who has been drinking, stay in well-lit tourist areas, don’t walk on roads, and travel in groups.
It’s also important to not get caught up in the celebrations and overdrink, as this can lead to a whole host of other problems.
Upcoming Holidays Celebrated In Los Cabos
In addition to Christmas and New Year’s, Mexico celebrates a number of other holidays during this time period.
