Palmilla Beach in Los Cabos is one of the more popular white sand beaches in the beach resort destination. Protected by a cove, the blue flag beach tends to feature more swimmable waters for tourists to the area.

However, tourists need to be advised that the restroom and shower facilities for visitors at Palmilla Beach have been closed indefinitely due to vandalism damage.

Palmilla Beach is a very popular beach with tourists located just south of San Jose del Cabo. It is not too far from the famous Palmilla golf courses that are well-known to both locals and visitors to the beach resort destination.

Many visitors call Palmilla Beach one of the best beaches for swimming in all of Los Cabos.

With gleaming white sand and a bit of seclusion from the Los Cabos tourist zone, many travelers come to Palmilla Beach for a bit of peace and quiet during their beach resort vacation.

There are also fewer beach vendors walking the beach and selling products, which leads to fewer breaks in the serenity of the environment.

While some of the beaches in Los Cabos are known for strong ocean currents and waves, Palmilla Beach is protected by a cove which makes the beach popular with swimmers.

It also makes it a popular spot for watching underwater sea life while snorkeling in the clear waters.

Palmilla Beach is also the starting point for the popular Los Cabos Ironman Triathlon and is also popular for the presence of local fishermen willing to sell their catch of red snapper or grouper for a fresh fish of the day meal.

Impact of the Vandalism

According to reports from Federal Maritime Land Official Jorge Alonso Meza Núñez, vandals caused structural damage to the restroom and shower facilities at Palmilla Beach, which caused the agency to close the facilities indefinitely for essential repairs.

Vandals also destroyed signage indicating the location of the restrooms and showers to guests at Palmilla Beach.

They also destroyed elements of the essential safety notification system used to inform swimmers about the ocean conditions to keep themselves safe in the water.

Safety is a critical piece of the requirement to be certified as a blue flag beach. Because of this risk, local officials are moving quickly to get the safety system back up and running.

Many visitors specifically seek to visit locations like Los Cabos because of their large number of blue flag certified beaches and commitment to protecting tourists’ safety as well as the pristine environment.

Rise in Vandalism

Meza Núñez mentioned that, unfortunately, vandalism has been on the increase in recent weeks to beach facilities, and they have engaged the Los Cabos municipal police to investigate the crimes.

The destruction of facilities is not only an inconvenience for visitors to Palmilla Beach, but local authorities also consider them a safety issue.

For example, the initial treatment for a jellyfish sting is to wash off the affected area. This is more of a challenge without shower availability.

Municipal police have asked the public and tourists that may have knowledge or details about the vandalism of Palmilla Beach to come forward and assist with the investigation and prosecution of the crime.

They also mentioned the potential of adding the Palmilla Beach area to the local surveillance camera system used at other popular Los Cabos beaches, such as El Medano in the tourist zone.

Impact To Tourists

Palmilla Beach is still open to visitors. However, tourists should be aware that convenient access to restrooms and showers will be closed for an extended period of time.

Because there are few restaurants available in the area, visitors to Palmilla Beach may face challenges if restroom facilities are needed.

Tourists may want to select other beaches in the local area until the restroom and shower facilities are once again available for visitors at the beach.
