This is going to be a year for the record books when it comes to the number of visitors hitting the sand and surf in Los Cabos.

That’s the findings from a recent review of the number of tourist guests served at the beach resort destination this year by the Los Cabos Tourism Trust.

What the Numbers Tell Us

It’s all smiles these days for Rodrigo Esponda Cascajares, general director of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust.

From January to July of this year, his agency estimates that Los Cabos saw a 15 percent increase in guests to the beach resort destination compared with the same time period last year.

According to his quick calculations, he estimates that equates to more than 2.3 million passengers who have used the Los Cabos International Airport as their prime arrival location.

This is much higher than even the rosiest projections of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust officials at the start of this year.

These strong numbers have led to renewed interest from investors in renewing and upgrading the amenities available for guests coming to enjoy a vacation getaway to Los Cabos.

It is hoped that more amenities will directly have a domino effect and lead to even more visitors to Los Cabos in future years.

All of last year, more than 3.5 million tourists selected Los Cabos for their vacation destination.

According to the current projections by Rodrigo Esponda Cascajares and the team at the Los Cabos Tourism Trust, Los Cabos is expecting to welcome between 4.1 and 4.2 million tourists to its shores this year.

Visitor Origination Shift

However, there is an interesting shift evolving in the origination of visitors to Los Cabos.

According to the research from the Los Cabos Tourism Trust, the number of visitors coming from international locations has slowed recently.

They are only expecting a single-digit increase in the count of tourists coming from countries such as the United States.

Instead, we are seeing many of those hotel rooms being filled by tourists from domestic markets, in other words, travelers from within Mexico.

The Los Cabos Tourism Trust is projecting a double-digit increase in that visitor segment to close this year.

Focus on the Big 5

The insight from the research team at the Los Cabos Tourism Trust shows that five amenities available in Los Cabos will be the focus of travelers for the remainder of the year.

Upscale dining in a private luxury jet

The big five features that will drive end-of-year excitement from travelers include luxury, high-level services, gastronomy, sports, and environmentally friendly activities.

However, the risk is that other tourist hotspots around the world, and in Mexico, are focused on similar tourist-demanded amenities.

Don’t fear visitors to Los Cabos, Esponda Cascajares has a way Los Cabos will be a better choice than any other beach resort destination.

His secret is differentiated service.

In other words, Los Cabos may have similar amenities to other destinations in Mexico. However, Los Cabos can provide a customer experience not found at those other large and impersonal vacation getaways.

What it All Means for Travelers

If you are one of those guests putting off the planning of your fall or holiday vacation getaway to Los Cabos, the time to start was yesterday.

The competition for hotel rooms at the best resorts in Los Cabos will be feverish this year, especially with the strong demand from other visitors across Mexico.

However, the combination of slowing growth in international visitors, along with an upcoming increase in flights to Los Cabos from United States airlines, means that airfares may actually remain steady during the busy period.

Or dare we write this, maybe even fall a bit?

According to Google Flights, Los Angeles to Los Cabos flights are normally $215-$330. However, there are days in October when they are $65 less than that average or potentially more than 20 percent off.

Be sure to keep an eye out for airfare price drops by setting an alert in Google Flights for the upcoming fall and holiday travel season!

However, travelers may want to consider locking in their hotel room rate at their preferred resort today with a refundable reservation.
