A common saying is that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. That also appears to be a popular way to get to the heart of many Los Cabos travelers.
In fact, according to a recent report from the Los Cabos Tourist Trust, more than one in ten visitors to the beach resort destination are coming for a Baja California foodie experience.
Food Travel Adventures
Los Cabos has definitely established itself as a gastronomy (or food) travel destination for international visitors.
The Los Cabos Tourist Trust issued a new report demonstrating the importance of food tourism in bringing visitors to the beach resort destination.
According to the feedback from tourist surveys, 14 percent of all tourists to Los Cabos indicated that the purpose of their travel was to enjoy the local gastronomy.
The leader of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust, Rodrigo Esponda, mentioned that visitors coming to Los Cabos for foodie adventures on average spent one extra night in Los Cabos and spent an average of 30 percent more on their vacation than typical travelers.
Unique Food Experiences
While Los Cabos is definitely known for its freshly caught seafood and fish, there are a number of other great delicacies to tempt the taste buds of any foodie traveler.
Visitors who are fans of tamales will have two interesting twists on the popular Mexican dish to try in Los Cabos.
Guemes Tamales are a favorite all over the Baja California region and feature traditional corn husk tamales with raisins, olives, and pork or chicken meat inside.
Another more common style tamale is the fajados chicken tamales with shredded chicken meat.
Another local favorite is food dishes paired with locally available pitahaya fruit, also known as dragon fruit, around the world. The term is also often used to refer to prickly pear from cacti.
Not to mention the experiences available to cook with local chefs and learn authentic Baja California cuisine methods firsthand from experts.
Sabor a Cabo in December
The release of the new Los Cabos traveler data came on the day that the Sabor a Cabo (Taste of Cabo) event was announced for December 2.
The premier culinary event in Los Cabos will host local restaurants, wine cellars, international chefs, and well-known international music artist Juanes.
The event is returning to Los Cabos after being canceled for the last three years due to the impact of the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic.
Not only does the Los Cabos Tourism Trust hope that international tourists will come and enjoy the foodie event, but hopefully, they will experience the other amenities available at the beach resort destination and find other opportunities to return in the future.
They are anticipating more than 3,000 attendees at the Sabor a Cabo event, and tickets are already available online at the event website.
What Foodies Need to Know
Foodies have long known that Los Cabos is an emerging destination for food travel.
Not only is Los Cabos a great place to try some unique Mexican dishes, but it is also a great place for foodies to roll up their sleeves and try some hands-on experiences with some of the best Mexican chefs in the country.
It also is a place with some high-profile events that combine the traditional sand and surf Los Cabos vacation getaway with food adventures.
As Los Cabos becomes even more well-known and established as a foodie destination, more adventures will come, and additional celebrity chefs will establish themselves in the area.
Until then, more than 14 percent of travelers choosing Los Cabos as their international foodie vacation getaway will find plenty of gastronomy options to explore and foods to taste as they enjoy the sand and surf of the beach resort destination.
