Even if you don’t use transportation for anything else when visiting Los Cabos, at the very least you’ll have to get from the airport to your hotel.

This ride is only about 20 minutes if you’re staying in San Jose del Cabo, but it’s nearly an hour-long ride to get to Cabo San Lucas.

And while transportation is generally safe in Los Cabos, there are a few reasons why transportation will be safer than ever for tourists in the future.

Ongoing Inspections

Recently it was announced that 30 new transportation inspectors were being authorized in Los Cabos to help maintain peace between Uber and taxi drivers.

Although the situation is not as bad as in some cities around the world, not just in Mexico, drivers of the two different types of transportation have been known to have disagreements.

Additionally, Los Cabos recently launched a surveillance program within public transportation, and since it started they are seeing a 70 percent improvement in service and safety.

@elenaagarciaa1 Tip to Save Money: Don’t buy transportation from the airport (Cabos) they will charge you($60-$80 dollars). Instead take the bus (90 pesos, around 6 dollars). The ride is around 40-45 minutes and it goes around the city. It’s a public bus! Work Being Done On The Highway To Improve Safety

The Transpeninsular Highway, along which sits the famous Tourist Corridor that runs between San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas, is known for being in disrepair.

It is not uncommon to hear about accidents on the road.  Due to this, Los Cabos officials have announced that they will be taking action, despite the fact that it is under federal jurisdiction.

Potholes will be filled along the road and repaving of the worst areas will take place in order to enhance safety on the highway until more permanent repairs can be made.

Transportation Alternatives

Public transportation, Uber, and taxis are not the only way to get around in Los Cabos, though Uber is the most preferred option, other than when traveling to and from the airport.

But another popular option is private transportation.

Many travelers prefer this option for three reasons:

  1. You can book in advance.
  1. You know what you’re paying upfront.
  1. It’s generally more comfortable.

Transportation costs will vary considerably depending on the type.

A taxi ride from Los Cabos International Airport can cost as much as $80 one way, whereas you can book an airport shuttle for as little as $16 each way.

Private transportation will cost close to what a taxi would, but it’s a much more comfortable ride and there is more transparency.

Los Cabos’ Walkability

Depending on where you stay in Los Cabos, you can walk to where you’re going.

If you’ll be staying along the Tourist Corridor, you’ll be more likely to have to use transportation to get anywhere.

Additionally, if you plan to take any tours or visit nearby towns, you’ll have to consider your transportation options as well.

Best Areas To Stay For Walking

Staying right in the tourist areas of San Jose del Cabo or Cabo San Lucas will allow you to walk to restaurants, beaches, and attractions.

There are numerous great hotels right around the marina area in Cabo San Lucas.

There are also plenty of options in San Jose del Cabo within walking distance of the historic old town area.

In both of these areas, there is plenty to do without having to use transportation.
