According to the Director of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust, Rodrigo Esponda Cascajares, Los Cabos’s popularity keeps increasing year after year.
Recent data reports how this popular destination has experienced an increase of half a million tourists in 2023 compared to 2022, and will close the year with a total of four million people arriving at Los Cabos International Airport.
Rodrigo Esponda Cascajares affirmed that this is equal to about 13% of growth.
In particular, he stated that Los Cabos has seen a drastic increase in the number of tourists from countries such as Spain and Japan, attracted to outdoor sports such as golf as well as the possibility of flying without layovers.
But apart from these factors, why do people keep choosing Los Cabos as their holiday destination?
Top luxury destination
Los Cabos is now widely regarded as one of the top luxurious destinations in Mexico. This is due to several factors, such as its all-inclusive resorts.
The Grand Velas Resort, the Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach Golf & Spa, and the Hacienda Encantada are just some of the many luxurious properties that have contributed to the popularity of this destination.
On top of this, every year, more hotel companies notice the potential of this municipality and decide to build new hotels in the area.
This is the case of massive corporations, including Four Seasons and Hyatt that will soon open state-of-the-art resorts in Los Cabos.
But top-notch accommodation options are only one of the main reasons why this municipality is now regarded by most as one of the top luxury destinations in the country.
Other factors include luxurious activities such as romantic cruises and whale tours, as well as numerous fine dining options.
Not by chance, Los Cabos is often chosen by world-renowned celebrities ranging from Micheal Jordan to Justin Timberlake, and Britney Spears for their vacations.
Stunning nature
Thanks to UNESCO-certified areas, such as the Sierra de la Laguna Biosphere Reserve and the Cabo Pulmo National Park, Los Cabos keeps attracting nature lovers from all over the world.
In this corner of Mexico, tourists can enjoy a vast range of outdoor activities ranging from snorkeling to hiking, and horse riding.
Los Cabos is also renowned for the cleanliness of its beaches. Not by chance, this is the North American place with the highest number of blue-flag-certified beaches.
High safety levels
Compared to other areas of Mexico, Los Cabos is constantly ranked among the safest municipalities in the country.
This is mainly due to the fact that most of the economy of this area is based on tourism, meaning that if the municipality suddenly becomes dangerous fewer and fewer tourists would choose this destination for their holiday leading to an economic crisis.
This is why the Los Cabos authorities are constantly trying to improve the safety of their municipality with several initiatives.
For instance, in the last months, a total of 28 new first responders and law enforcement vehicles were added to the Los Cabos police forces. On top of this, in September, the local government decided to increase its police presence to protect tourists and locals and deter acts of criminality.
Local authorities are also constantly monitoring the main beaches in the area such as El Medano Beach to make sure tourists are safe at all times from both local scammers as well as the ever-changing sea conditions which can be extremely dangerous at times.
The only issue that still needs improvement seems to be Los Cabos’ mobility. Traffic in Los Cabos is unfortunately extremely common with tourists often risking losing their flight due to the huge congestion.
But this is not all. The lack of affordable transportation options coupled with the poor road conditions made ‘mobility’ the main concern for tourists traveling to Los Cabos in 2023.
Luckily, the local government is now working on a series of initiatives to solve the issue such as fixing deteriorated streets in the municipality while putting in place new strategies whose main goal is to give more fluidity to traffic.
