Why Los Cabos Is Having Its Busiest Summer On Record This Year

The heat of the summer sun has not stopped the visitors from coming to Los Cabos for a fun-filled vacation in the sand and surf.

Summer is traditionally the slow season in Los Cabos, and the number of hotel rooms filled is definitely lower than the peak travel seasons.

However, the trend is still ahead of last year’s guest count and is not showing any indication of slowing down, even with hotel room rates hitting high prices.

Busy Month of May

Based on early numbers of visitors to the beach resort destination during the summer, the Baja California Sur Undersecretary of State Tourism Fernando Ojeda Aguilar projects an average hotel occupancy rate of 70 percent for the summer.

However, he may be underestimating the demand for Los Cabos among international tourists.

During the month of May, the visitor count to Los Cabos was 15 percent higher than the previous year, which bodes well for a strong summer for the local resorts and tourism businesses.

While the official visitor counts for June are not available yet, Undersecretary Ojeda Aguilar was confident that the numbers will be very good for the Los Cabos tourism industry.

A Trendy Destination

The number of celebrities recently visiting Los Cabos has definitely contributed to the beach resort destination being a trendy vacation getaway for Americans.

Everyone from Britney Spears and the Kardashians to professional sports athletes has visited Los Cabos this summer and shared their experiences with their millions of fans.

This has continued the trend of Los Cabos being the place to be seen vacationing in the sand and surf.

Luxury Amenities

Los Cabos is continuing to develop its luxury resort and amenity offerings that are available to visitors year-round.

Luxury spa treatments, foodie dining experiences, and upscale events are all available no matter the heat of the Los Cabos sun.

Even the championship golf courses in the warm sun get a considerable number of tourists looking to hit the greens of Los Cabos.

There are more to come as additional resorts, and higher-end amenities are in the planning stages for Los Cabos through the end of the year and beyond.

Affordable Summer Destination

While hotel nights recently averaged $500 per night and more in the prime hotel zone locations in Los Cabos, they have backed off considerably due to the hot summer sun.

A scan of prices recently had some really nice hotel and resort properties in Los Cabos going for $250 or less per night on a weekend at the end of July.

While the all-inclusive resorts tend to naturally be more expensive, they were priced at about $500-$700 per night during the same sample weekend time period at the end of July.

Several budget hotel options for more thrifty visitors to Los Cabos were amazingly priced under $100 – even on a weekend!

Combine that with the lower price of flights – for example, flights from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Los Cabos were around $200 in late July – and it’s easy to see why Los Cabos is popular as an affordable summer beach destination.

Value For Visitors

All in all, there are some very compelling reasons for travelers looking for a summer beach getaway to make an international vacation escape to Los Cabos.

Fewer crowds, lower prices, and still the same great amenities continue to make the beach resort destination the place to be seen even with the hot summer sun.

It’s a great time to enjoy Los Cabos before the cooler weather in fall and winter increases the crowds and traffic and raises the cost of flights and hotel rooms during the more busy shoulder and peak travel seasons.

Why doesn’t anyone who writes about Cabo tourism talk about the dangers of renting a car & adventuring to Todos Santos & La Paz? We were pulled over by police for no reason, they said we were speeding in a school zone. It was after 4 PM & we didn’t see a school zone, speed or go faster than any cars around us. They wanted to take up to the police station & pay a $300 ticket & settled on $125 cash to let us go. Since this happened, we’ve had multiple people tell us of similar experiences. We’ve also heard all rental cars are white and a target for a police shakedown. We should have had our resort hire us a private driver for the day. Wish we’d known about the Cabo & surrounding area police corruption in advance.
