When visiting Los Cabos, you don’t necessarily need to have a car, especially if you’ll be staying right in the tourist area of Cabo San Lucas or San Jose del Cabo, but renting a car does have its benefits.
Even if you’ll just be going from the airport to your hotel and back, it’s more convenient to have your own transportation and more control over your time.
There are a number of other benefits of having a car too, but we’ll tell you the top 5 reasons you should rent a car during your Los Cabos vacation.
Cheaper Than Taking Taxis And Ubers All Week
Taxis and Ubers can get expensive if you plan to not only get to and from the airport but also travel around and between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo.
Also, Ubers, which are generally cheaper than taxis, can only drop you off at the airport because they are not allowed to pick you up there, and a taxi from Los Cabos International Airport to Cabo San Lucas can cost as much as $80 or more for a one-way trip.
Renting a car can cost as little as around $30 a day, so having it for a four-day trip costs less than taking a roundtrip taxi ride to and from the airport.

Can Visit The Nearby Magic Town Of Todos Santos
If you don’t want your vacation activities to be limited to what Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo have to offer, then renting a car is a great idea.
One place that many Los Cabos tourists take the trip to see is the Magic Town (a town in Mexico with historical and/or cultural significance) of Todos Santos.
It’s about 46 miles from Cabo San Lucas, which takes a little less than an hour to travel, and this lovely town will give you more of an authentic cultural experience than you’ll find in Cabo.

Can Go To Off The Beaten Path Locations
In addition to some of the popular places like Todos Santos that surround Los Cabos, there are also some more off-the-beaten-path locations worth visiting.
You can get away from the crowds and take a dip in a hot spring, go hiking, and even visit a waterfall.
And these areas are less than a two-hour drive from Cabo San Lucas.

Can Spend A Day In San Jose Del Cabo
Most travelers who visit Los Cabos stay in Cabo San Lucas because it has the most luxury all-inclusive resorts and because it has more to do within walking distance.
But San Jose del Cabo is full of charm, art, authenticity, and great restaurants, so it is absolutely worth visiting.
It only takes about a half hour to get there by car.

Can Get To Quieter Beaches
Medano Beach, which is the most popular beach in Los Cabos, is located right in the heart of Cabo San Lucas.
That’s great if you’re looking for an energetic, party-like beach scene, but if you’re looking for some rest and relaxation on the beach, you’ll have to take a little drive.
A number of the quieter beaches can be found along the Tourist Corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, so having a car is a convenient way to get there.
@go.roam.explore Playa Santa Maria is a perfect crescent beach with strong waves as well as calm turquoise waters for snorkeling along the rocks. The #montageloscabos is located right on the beach, but like many of Los Cabos’ designated beaches, there are great public facilities with parking, bathrooms, outdoor showers and a shaded path to the sands. #traveltiktok #loscabos #beach #mexicotravel #bucketlist #snorkeling ♬ Way Back Home – Shaun ft. This is total bunk. I rented a car at the airport and get ripped off. Ordered an SUV, they had no SUV available. I paid for insurance online and the car company said they didn’t except that insurance so I had to pay twice. Found out after I got to my hotel that they could’ve rented me a car for half the price. Will never do that again.
