Looking forward to enjoying a beach resort vacation getaway to Los Cabos this winter?

You may want to add a few extra dollars to your hotel accommodation budget as the destination has one of the highest hotel room prices in the entire country.

Room Rates Remain High

According to Lilizi Orci, executive president of the Los Cabos Hotel Association, the average rate per room in Los Cabos is currently one of the highest in the entire country at $560 per night.

This is one of the highest rates seen in Los Cabos, especially for it not being a holiday travel period. Rates will be at least that level, if not higher, in a couple of weeks when the spring holiday travel season really gets started in Los Cabos.

The demand for hotel rooms in Los Cabos continues to outstrip the supply which is leading to the high room rates being paid by travelers to the beach resort destination.

Occupancy Stays Strong

Even with the high room rates in Los Cabos during the month of January, travelers continue to visit to enjoy the sun, sand, and surf for a vacation getaway.

Nearly seven out of every ten resort and hotel rooms in Los Cabos were full during the month.

While this was a slight decline year-over-year, Orci said the difference in occupancy levels was more about the increased availability of accommodations, including vacation rental properties, as opposed to a drop in the number of tourists or lower overall demand for resort and hotel rooms.

Why Los Cabos Remains Popular

Over the past year or two, Los Cabos has really worked to reinvent itself from a college spring break destination to one more focused on serving more luxury travelers with high-end accommodations and amenities.

The added travel from that segment increased the demand for travel to Los Cabos and is, in part, fueling the price increase in the room rates.

The affluent traveler has more available income than college students and budget travelers to spend on amenities and accommodations. The high average room rate of $560 is not as much as an issue to the luxury traveler.

That’s why the demand for resort and hotel rooms has not dropped significantly despite the high average room rates for travelers.

In fact, according to a business owner interviewed in the article about the high average hotel room rates, tourists to Los Cabos continue to arrive, and the business was expecting the same growth rate of the past couple of years to continue this year in the beach resort destination.

Travelers Need to Prepare

Most travelers should already have adjusted to the high room rates in Los Cabos, as this has been the case for the past couple of years.

Tourists should expect this level of traveler demand and this level of room rate pricing to continue as the demand is stronger than the available supply of hotel rooms.

Therefore, travelers should book as far in advance as possible to get the best room rates and choose more urban hotels to reduce the rate instead of expensive beachfront properties.

It may also save money on an overall vacation getaway to consider an all-inclusive property which factors in meals and amenities as opposed to paying for each element of a vacation separately.

The all-inclusive resorts in Los Cabos are actually very price-competitive right now and are worth a second look for value-oriented travelers.

Visitors could also set fare alerts to save money on their airfare to Los Cabos. Popular travel search engines like Google Flights can monitor and send notifications to travelers when prices drop and are a good value for a vacation getaway.
