San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas, the two cities that make up the destination of Los Cabos, have long been popular among tourists.
These destinations have been growing even more popular in recent years, and as they have, so have some of the surrounding areas.
Five stunning towns near Los Cabos, in particular, are quickly growing in popularity with tourists for a number of reasons.
Baja California Sur – More Than Just Los Cabos
While Los Cabos is certainly the most popular destination in this region of Baja California Sur, that’s not to say that the small nearby towns don’t have something to offer.
Many of them are not densely populated and are filled with authenticity and a certain old-world charm that you won’t find so easily in Los Cabos.
This is why visiting these five stunning towns is becoming a popular activity for Los Cabos tourists.

Santiago
The town of Santiago is located just over an hour from Cabo San Lucas.
It is home to less than 1,000 residents and consists of little more than a small square, which is okay because if you’re visiting Santiago, it’s for the surrounding nature to explore.
In addition to rows of fruit trees surrounding the town itself, you’ll also find mountains, palms, waterfalls, and hot springs just outside of the town.

Miraflores
Miraflores is a little bit closer than Santiago, located about an hour from Cabo San Lucas.
While it has a few more residents, the town is still very small but has a vibrant community of ranchers, farmers, and craftsmen that enjoy periodic celebrations in the center of town, like the annual Pitahaya Festival.
The old church in the town’s center is a point of interest for many visitors, but the close proximity of the Sierra de la Laguna mountains is the biggest draw for tourists.

Buena Vista
Located about an hour and a half from Cabo San Lucas, Buena Vista is one of the more lively of these small towns.
It still maintains some of its small fishing village vibes but has become a charming, peaceful East Cape beach destination as well.
Most tourists visit the town for its beautiful, quiet beaches on the Sea of Cortez and its fishing or simply for a more relaxing vacation away from the hustle and bustle of Los Cabos.

La Ribera
Also located about an hour and a half from Cabo San Lucas and right on the Sea of Cortez is La Ribera.
The town is home to only a couple of thousand people but is known as a sport fishing destination, even hosting fishing tournaments throughout the year, so residents are accustomed to seeing tourists in town.
In addition to fishing, this little beach town is great for travelers who enjoy kayaking, paddleboarding, hiking, diving, and snorkeling.

Los Barriles
A little over an hour and a half from Cabo San Lucas, Los Barriles is the furthest from Los Cabos of these small towns.
While the town is small, with just a couple of thousand people and a quaint fishing village vibe, it has a lively town center with taquerias, cafes, and shops.
Due to its location on the Sea of Cortez, the town is also known for being one of the best fishing spots in the region and is a destination for kitesurfing enthusiasts.
