If there’s one place in Cabo San Lucas that even the “too-cool-for-tourist-spots” crowd quietly sneaks into, it’s The Office on the Beach on Médano.
And yes—we at The Cabo Sun know it has a reputation for being touristy. But hear us out: this is one “trap” that delivers exactly what most travelers secretly want from Cabo—feet-in-the-sand dining, strong margaritas, and a front-row seat to the Sea of Cortez at its most lively.
The backstory even oozes Cabo lore: the name stuck after a windsurfing expat nicknamed the old palapa his “office,” and a hand-painted sign made it official.

What Makes It Worth It
First, location. Médano Beach is Cabo’s social shoreline, with swimmable water most days and nonstop people-watching. It’s where you want to be if you like energy with your eggs rancheros or sunset fajitas.
Local officials do adjust beach safety flags when conditions change, so always check the colors (green, yellow, red, black) before swimming—Médano can shift with surf and currents like anywhere else. We’ve broken down the beach flag system in plain English, and new safety signage is going up to make it even clearer.

Second, consistency. The Office is part of the restaurant family connected to Edith Jiménez—of Edith’s fame—which helps explain the smooth service machine and polished kitchen. That heritage, plus decades of practice, keeps the experience dialed: colorful plates, tables in the sand, and music that nudges lunch into late afternoon.
The Move: Reserve (Or Go Off-Peak)
This is a wildly popular spot; plan ahead. The restaurant confirms tables by phone or online, and you’ll thank yourself on weekends and during high season. Breakfast is your stealth play: same views, smaller crowds, and you’re first in line for water activities after. If your heart’s set on golden hour, book early and arrive a little before your time—Médano traffic and vendor detours can add a few minutes to your walk.

What To Order (And How To Pace It)
Menus rotate from breakfast to lunch to dinner with crowd-pleasers across seafood and classic Mexican dishes. Keep it simple and shareable to match the beach vibe—think guac and ceviche to start, then something grilled while you linger.
Margaritas are the legend here (sip, don’t chug—the sun is undefeated), and the staff will steer you to fresh fish when it’s in.
For a taste of the group’s broader style, many diners pair an Office lunch with a dinner at Edith’s on another night.

Navigating Vendors Like A Pro
Médano is a working beach, which means vendors. Most are friendly locals, and Cabo has rolled out new uniforms and ID badges to identify licensed sellers.
If you prefer to browse in peace, a polite “no, gracias” works; if you want a souvenir, buy from credentialed vendors and confirm the price first. We’ve covered the crackdown on unlicensed sellers and practical tips to keep these interactions positive, especially on busy cruise-ship days when pitches spike.

Safety & Swim Smart
Even swimmable beaches have moments when the ocean says “not today.” Before you hop in, scan for flags or ask a lifeguard; during mar-de-fondo swells or rough weather, officials tighten rules on Médano to keep everyone safe. We regularly update readers on new beach rules and what each flag means so you’re never guessing.
When To Go
Shoulder seasons—late spring and early fall—can mean easier reservations and a looser, local feel, while winter brings prime weather and bigger demand. Regardless of month, The Office works best as a slow experience: give yourself time to settle in, toes in the sand, and watch the bay’s boats, swimmers, and parasails drift by. (And yes, you’ll see why this is the most people-watched slice of shoreline in town.) For broader context on Cabo’s busiest beaches and alternatives when crowds spike, we’ve highlighted options beyond Médano too.

Bottom Line
Is The Office on the Beach popular? Absolutely. But it earns the hype by bottling Cabo’s greatest hits into one scene: beach-chair comfort, can’t-miss views, and a kitchen that knows what visitors crave after a morning on the water. Book ahead, respect the flags, buy from licensed vendors, and lean into the fun. This is one “tourist trap” we’ll happily recommend every time.

The Office IS the ultimate tourist trap. Pay more for average food with sub par services. Be sure to double check your bill, they sneakily will add on the unknown "service charge" IMHO...walk the opposite way to Tabascos. Quality food, better prices. Same beach, same view.
