The popularity of Los Cabos and other Mexican vacation destinations has been steadily rising since the pandemic began to wind down and of all the places in Mexico frequented by tourists, Cabo is one of the top destinations.  Now, a new study has revealed that Los Cabos is one of the most competitive tourist cities in Mexico too, proving just how popular it is.  The study analyzed a total of 66 Mexican cities and one of the key indicators of competitiveness is the perception of safety in any given city.

Los Cabos has already been determined to be one of the safest tourist cities to visit in Mexico and even residents say they feel safe in Los Cabos.  In fact, more than 70 percent of residents said at the time that they were given surveys a few months ago that they felt safe living in the Baja California city.  Furthermore, surveys given to tourists during the year as they were leaving the destination revealed that most of them felt safe while visiting Los Cabos as well.

Security in Los Cabos is constantly being addressed by government officials, with various operations implemented throughout the year to address tourist safety.  Elements of the Navy and other branches of the military are regularly utilized to patrol busy tourist areas in both San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas.  And now, there are plans in the near future to install as many as 300 security cameras throughout the area to further enhance security in the region.

San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas are two separate cities that are both parts of Los Cabos, which translates in English to “The Capes.”  Capes are pieces of land that jut out into a body of water and typically rise to a higher elevation than the land around them.  San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas are each one of the two capes that are located in the Mexican state of Baja California Sur that make up Los Cabos.

One of the reasons Los Cabos is so popular among American tourists specifically is the close proximity of the region to the United States.  The Baja California peninsula is connected to the U.S. and although it still isn’t very practical to drive to the tourist destination, the geographical closeness makes flying pretty convenient.  Considerably shorter flights, fairly cheap plane tickets, and an easy immigration process all contribute to giving Americans easy access to the Mexican paradise.

Another likely reason for Los Cabos being so competitive in the Mexican tourism market is all that it has to offer for all types of tourists.  For those looking for adventure, Los Cabos has a long list of outdoor and water activities and even more opportunities for adventure not far from the area.   In Cabo San Lucas there is also a vibrant nightlife with bars and clubs for all age groups.

For those looking for a more relaxing vacation, there are more secluded resorts along the tourist corridor and in San Jose del Cabo.  Many of these are all-inclusive, where guests can arrive and have everything they need without leaving the resort property.  And some of the all-inclusive properties offer much more than one would expect, including gourmet restaurants and 24-hour in-room dining.

When you look at the number of tourists that have visited Los Cabos this year, which is close to 7 million, it’s no surprise it is one of the most competitive Mexican tourist cities.  Known for its plentiful days of sunshine, beautiful beaches, and an unparalleled level of hospitality it’s also no secret as to why it is such a popular tourist destination.
